Throughout the month of April, I've become more aware of my surroundings and my impact on our planet.
I've always been a recycler.  I reused the wine bottle below to root plant cuttings.  It's a great feeling!

The callery "chinese" pear tree!! These trees are all over my community and one is directly above my parking space. They look nice but smell horrid. The trees can cross pollinate and choke out native species from growing. The tree is nearly impossible to get ride of. It can grow back from the roots and a single seed can be stagnate for 11 years before growing into a tree.

I learned specifically for Ohio there is not a limit on annual rent increases. I myself have experienced a dramatic rent increase and the lack of protection in this aspect can be very dangerous for the community.

I was so excited to see a blue-gray gnatcatcher for the first time yesterday! It was hopping around in the trees in my backyard. I think it was a female or juvenile male, as it didn't have the black line above its eyes that give it an amusing expression. I've been enjoying logging birds in the Merlin app. During 2020, my husband and I got into playing the Wingspan board game, which is all about birds. Since then, we've gotten much better at identifying local birds. I'm looking forward to adding more sightings this weekend--it is close to migratory time for many species!
