Stephen Bodie 4/28/2022 5:18 AMSome of the biggest takeaways from the challenge is the 5-minute showers limits, sustainable truck/camp builds and learning about Lake George and the effects of runoff and its water. I dont know how some people take short showers but then I just imagine that I'm at camp and there is a time limit. ( If you're in Acadia NP and camping at Blackwoods campground [the closes campground to the park] there are no showers just restrooms. So you have to drive out to the showers down the road from the entrance and pay $3 for 4 or 6 minutes I believe) Something else that I had some time to think about was my impact while on the trails. As someone who is just starting to get into the off-road scene, there are a lot of moving parts ( no pun intended) to it. Thinking about the sustainability of parts for your truck, where they are coming from, does the company have green shipping, is this part going to be useful; all of these questions are justified by the budget of a truck build/ camping set up. Lake George is interesting in how its ecosystem is derived and where the water comes from. I'm glad there are enforced rules so that the life of the lake is extended for people to see and enjoy it.-
REBURTA MOFFITT 4/28/2022 6:33 AMThat five minute shower is a CHALLENGE! At first, I had to set my timer. Now, it's just become pretty routine. It also gives me more time in the mornings now. I use that time for mindful meditation. LIFE CHANGING in such a wonderful way!

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & Equity Learn About Equitable Food AccessHow is food equity and access linked to a sustainable future?
Stephen Bodie 4/27/2022 12:51 PMIf we were to change how we grow and sell food that alone could make a more sustainable future. Today, we utilize the common system of growing food in a crop miles away and then its process and shipped across the U.S. If we changed to rooftop farming, hydroponic farms, and other sustainable grow farms and made them local; not only would individuals receive fresh food, it would be close to their home( no need to burn extra fossil fuels via trucks) and you can reduce the price of it because its right there in the neighborhood. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & Equity Support Indigenous & First Nations CommunitiesWhy is it important to honor native and indigenous peoples and cultures? What have you learned that is important to you? If you identify with or are a member of an indigenous group, how does your community practice sustainability?
Stephen Bodie 4/27/2022 12:48 PMI believe it is important to honor the native and indigenous peoples and their cultures because they were on this land before us. It is important to respect all cultures and land. Something that I learned is that no matter where you are from the land that you live on was once traveled by native and indigenous peoples. I try not to litter and I am conscious of my actions outside. I do not identify or am a member of an indigenous group. -
Stephen Bodie 4/27/2022 11:53 AMIf you're looking for a good staycation idea, look at the DEC campsite website through reserve America. Sites are going pretty fast. Liz and I booked a few campsites for this summer. Also on a whim, we booked a Saturday morning for Cadillac Mountain Sunrise in Acadia NP in July. We wanted to do that last summer but it was sold out the whole time we were there in August.-
Stephen Bodie 4/27/2022 12:44 PMI want to check out the Saranac Lake island campgrounds this summer and go kayak camping. I'm excited about the sunrise. Hopefully it's a good day for it. -
Colleen Wise 4/27/2022 12:32 PMYou're going to LOVE the Cadillac Mt sunrise - it's spectacular! We made reservations through ReserveAmerica this winter for LG island camping, we do it every year & really enjoy it.

REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & Livelihood Learn About The Education & Livelihood SDGsWhat was a linking factor across this group of SDGs?
Stephen Bodie 4/25/2022 5:49 AMThe linking factor across this group of sustainable development goals was the pandemic over the past two and half years. This pandemic has put a lot of people in a pinch. It has affected families and individuals more than we know. Everyone had to make crucial decisions. -

Stephen Bodie 4/21/2022 1:00 PMSo one of the things that I did with my first car was doing a cold air intake. If you google it is the part that is a black box in your engine bay (under the hood). There have been studies that less restriction to the engine improves MPG. MY first car was a 2015 Volkswagen Jetta 1.8 turbo. It had a small little turbo and it was a small 4-cylinder engine. It did pretty good on gas. I was ranging about 430 miles. I ended up running the CTS Turbo CAI. The most popular brand that won't break the bank is K&N Filter. They have CAI's for all makes and models (except EVs). This will most likely be my first and only mod on the engine in the 4runner. -
Stephen Bodie 4/21/2022 8:21 AMIt's almost earth week. Is anyone doing anything fun this weekend? I had some changes to my weekend so I'm now available to do a trail clean-up and possibly do another clean-up in Green Field Center. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & Communities Online Energy AuditWhat most interested or surprised you about your energy audit?
Stephen Bodie 4/19/2022 10:34 AMOut of my energy audit, I wanted to look at how much power I was consuming. In the office, I thought I was using more but using natural light and reducing phantom power via my laptop being plugged in I was able to reduce my watts. I usually keep my air on a temp controlled setting so its not constantly running the fan.
I would say I use less energy at the office than I do at home. At home We have a few things plugged in usually. Spending time outside has reduced the time that our TV is on which is a good thing. When we take our dog out we know that the TV is off for a good 15 minutes during that time so that's an extra 45 minutes during the 1+ hours it is not on and drawing power.
