Local Town Politics
I've decided to start attending our town's monthly meetings. My goal is to not only help my family with these sustainable actions we are doing, but to also help steer the community in this direction as well. Small actions can lead to bigger ones and the small ski town I live in can be/live better.
Education & Livelihood
Research Impact Investing

Climate & Ecosystems
Sustainable seafood options
My family loves seafood. Recently, we took a look at the Seafood Watch List (https://www.seafoodwatch.org/recommendations/search?query=%3Abuy%3BGreen) and noted some of the items we like are on the list. My goal was to make two dinners out of cherrystone clams. The first night we had a wonderful catfish dinner with clams as a side (catfish-also on the list) and the second I made a delicious Clam Chowder out of the cherrystones and top necks. Picking these sustainable seafood options helped improve an overall environmental footprint.
Climate & Ecosystems
Reducing Plastics
My family and I have noticed how many single use drinks we have daily. Recently we purchased reusable containers and use them daily now instead of the single use.
Education & Livelihood
Thanking a teacher
I reached out to one of my old teachers. My goal was to let them know how much of a positive impact they made on my life and how her teachings still register with me to this day. I chose this action because I know the power of kindness. She sent me an email back thanking me for reaching out. Her husband is ill and parents are in their 90's and on the decline. She was so grateful for my words- saying they came at just the right time.

REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & Ecosystems Ecological & Xeriscape GardeningWhat ecological or xeriscape landscaping practices do you have? How has your landscape changed from these practices?
REBURTA MOFFITT 4/30/2022 1:56 PMWe’ve recently planted bushes and trees to take root on out property. The neighbors logged on both sides creating an ecological mess. Our roads have been washed out due to this. So now we’ve planted along the borders. Hoping for the roots to soak up the water runoff. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & Security Calculate Your Water FootprintWhat is one way you will reduce your water use? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your water use?
REBURTA MOFFITT 4/30/2022 1:53 PMI’m going to reduce water when I’m washing the dishes. I am going to stop running the water the whole time. Couple things I do that reduces water consumption are turning the water off while brushing my teeth and taking short showers. -
REBURTA MOFFITT 4/28/2022 6:43 AMSuper excited for this team. Living this way has increased my joy for life! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & Communities Mend ClothingWhat was it like to mend your clothing? If you are skilled at mending, what tips do you have for others?

REBURTA MOFFITT 4/28/2022 6:26 AMLast night we planned a Staycation for August. We are going to head to Long Lake for five days. We'll take the kids to ADK Experience and The Wild Center. We'll swim in the lake and slide down the waterfall slides at Bog River Falls. It will be most enjoyable! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & Security VolunteerWhat was one of your most memorable volunteer experiences, and why? What would you like to volunteer for next, and why?
REBURTA MOFFITT 4/28/2022 6:23 AMI have many good memories from volunteering. However, my most memorable volunteer experience was my very first one, decades ago...
I was volunteering at the soup kitchen and I was wondering why I decided to choose that specific line of volunteer work for school credit when another classmate walked in. I thought he was there to help as well and soon learned he went there almost daily... to eat. His father had died and his mother suffered a broken heart and got into drugs. A meal is not something that was made in his family & the peanut butter he put in the cabinet was his go to food if he didn't seek out the soup kitchen for a warm meal.
That day changed my life- for the better. The boy and I became fast friends and more than twenty years later he is a successful, intelligent business man. He went into the military, then to college, came home & met the woman of his dreams (my best friend from grade school-lol!) He lost his mother to drugs and now advocates for suffering families.
This event sparked my need to help my community through volunteering. My next volunteer work is at the Outreach Center next week. They focus on getting clothes and food to the local community with out having anyone pay for anything.-

REBURTA MOFFITT 4/27/2022 7:26 AMMy family and I continue to build relationships in our community. We try to help elders especially. It's important for me to show my children how to respectfully treat others in our community as one day, we'll be old and need a helping hand as well. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & Communities Choose Clean/Renewable EnergyHow might you be able to get others involved in advocating for the clean energy shift?
REBURTA MOFFITT 4/27/2022 6:25 AMI've already got my neighbor involved too! It wasn't hard to switch- a phone call- that was all! 'Switching' was simple and easy to do. I think that's what people need now a days. Simple and easy- doesn't take up a lot of time and one can move on with their day. :)
