In our region so many communities are impacted by PFOA contamination, rendering water unsafe to drink.

In our area, infrastructure is also problematic, and often our water supplies are contaminated causing water boiling alerts or the need to bring water into the town/village until issues are fixed.

What plastic or single-use items do you regularly use? What did you substitute or could be substituted?

Out youngest daughter turned 4 today, and I had the unfortunate experience of removing the packaging for a set of dolls she received from Grandma. Not only did it come close pushing me to the brink of patience trying to open it, the amount of plastic in the packaging was alarming!

Why is art an important way for you to express sustainability values?

Works of art (in all forms) often serve as commentary on current society and can offer solutions or simply bring awareness.

While I may not create my own expressions of sustainable art work, I gladly share work I see from other creators.

What surprised you about the two produce lists? How will you use these lists for your grocery shopping? Have you used these lists before?

I have seen the dirty dozen list before, but it was nice to see the clean 15 along side it. I have come to appreciate the complexity of some of the choices I make for me and my family. Sometimes the bigger challenge is how to communicate with my larger family. My mother and law loves feeding my children Strawberries (which are at the top of the dirty dozen list).

My spouse has been using this (or similar) type of list for years now (he does the bulk of our shopping).
What I see in these lists, will make me a more cautious shopper of produce and I will aim to shop more locally.

What is one way you will reduce your water use? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your water use?

Each day I strive to use a refillable water bottle and coffee (tea) mug. While I still get take out tea/coffee, the frequency has reduced greatly by having a cup and tea pot in my office. Additionally,  I no longer use single use plastic water bottles.

What surprises me, in reading about water use is the "virtual" water and how much water is used in the manufacturing process for so many items.

I realized that taking shorter showers isn't much of a challenge for me....however I've shifted my attention to my, almost, teenage daughter, which has been a much greater challenge!

I am adding organic mulch to my own yard, have had my yard certified as a Monarch habitat, and purchase native perennial plants for my pollinator gardens. Mostly the rabbits eat these, but I keep trying!

How did you incorporate using an entire vegetable (skins, peels, tops, and stalks) during one of your meal preps? What's something new you're going to try that is a zero-waste meal practice?

My daughter and I are vegetarians working toward more vegan meals.  We have been enjoying trying new recipes.  I have been making broth out of leftover food cuttings and bringing leftovers in for lunch.

I walk my dog every day and have been walking with friends now that it is light after work.
