REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & Communities Choose Clean/Renewable EnergyHow might you be able to get others involved in advocating for the clean energy shift?
Tiffany Theden 4/13/2022 8:28 PMTalk about the benefits and savings, and how we can help reduce emissions to help protect the places we love from a climate that is shifting dramatically and very quickly! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & Livelihood Volunteer In My CommunityWhat is one thing you can do to help your community become more sustainable?
Tiffany Theden 4/11/2022 5:18 PMI drew a cute illustration for the Leavenworth Earth Day Community Fair that Waste Loop is hosting, promoting sustainable action, recycling, and waste reduction in the Wenatchee Valley. I regularly take in my neighbors and our recycling to their location to recycle glass, cardboard, and yard waste, and just found out Dolco, at 1121 S. Columbia St. in Wenatchee recycles #6 Polystyrene plastic! I also volunteer with the Washington Native Plant Society, and the Fungal Diversity Survey!-
Tiffany Theden 4/14/2022 3:22 PMIt's on April 24th 11-4pm :) https://www.wasteloop.org/pages/earth-fair -
Jeanne Poirier 4/12/2022 8:18 PMSustainable NCW's recycle wizard is going to be an awesome resource for our area. Thanks Tiffany! When is Leavenworth Earth Day Community Fair?!?

REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & Ecosystems Calculate Your Carbon ImpactWhat is one way you will reduce your carbon foorprint? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your carbon footprint?
Tiffany Theden 4/11/2022 4:56 PMMy partner and I been vegan for over 20 years, and buy everything used from either thrift stores, craigslist, or eBay. Additional things we could do could be to drive less and use public transportation more, but that is difficult when schedules are limited and travel times are significantly longer. We can also eat more local and unpackaged foods, which is a bit harder in winter, but we excel at during the summer farmers market/CSA season. Many (most) vegan meat and dairy substitutes are packaged in plastic, so we've tried to find brands that come in paper boxes, but they are few and far between... -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & Ecosystems Explore My AreaHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place? Was there a new place in your region that was exciting to learn about and visit?
Tiffany Theden 4/10/2022 5:37 PMI'm becoming intimately acquainted with the foothills trails around Wenatchee and love to see the flowers popping up each day, increasing in density and diversity. Everyone should be out on a trail every day to learn about where they live and begin to care about and care for these amazing places we call home. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & Equity Spend Time OutsideWhat are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?
Tiffany Theden 4/10/2022 5:33 PMwe are becoming so disconnected from the natural world being inside all the time. if people dont interact with something then they dont care what happens to it.-
Jeanne Poirier 4/10/2022 7:08 PMWe are so tied to screens whether phone, laptop, TV or . . . gaming, movies, depending on this for information instead of what is outside in nature telling us the report. Keep up the good work. You've taken on LOAD of actions!! Whatever you do and share with us is appreciated and valued.

REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & Security Take 5-Minute Or Less ShowersWith 5-minute or less showers reducing your water footprint, what do you plan to add next to your water conservation habits?
Tiffany Theden 4/10/2022 5:32 PMusing ollas to water our plants instead of the hose, should cut down significantly on water use.-
Tiffany Theden 4/14/2022 3:24 PMThey are large round clay pots you bury underground that slowly release water into the surrounding soil. Here's a really good page with more info and how to make diy versions https://www.nativeseeds.org/blogs/blog-news/how-to-use-olla-irrigation -
Jeanne Poirier 4/10/2022 7:09 PMWhat is an ollas?

REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & Ecosystems Reduce Single-Use PlasticsWhat plastic or single-use items do you regularly use? What did you substitute or could be substituted?
Tiffany Theden 4/10/2022 5:31 PMplastic cat food containers. they are #5 plastic so I have been saving them for months in the hope of repurposing them.-
Tiffany Theden 4/14/2022 3:26 PMThe recycled plastic company Preserve (they make razors and plastic silverware and dish, from recycled #5 plastic) use to accept #5 plastic if you sent it to them, but it's been on hold for a long time now. :( https://www.preserve.eco/pages/gimme5-overview -
Jeanne Poirier 4/10/2022 7:12 PMGood luck on this! I remember briefly living in Tacoma where I could go to the transfer station and a bin "all other plastics" - probably burned, but when options are limited. Wouldn't it be awesome if we could refill??
