Steven Hook 4/26/2022 11:48 AMI had a meatless meal for breakfast which was a banana and protein shake. -
Steven Hook 4/26/2022 11:47 AMI bought an elliptical over the weekend. I decided to put it towards the garage door so I can open it, look out at the trees and reflect. It actually has been quite nice, especially to watch the birds chirp while I move. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & Communities Create A Readiness PlanWhat was it like to create a readiness plan? Did you find other resources you could share?
Steven Hook 4/18/2022 8:49 AMThis was harder than I had anticipated. While I am typically ready, or so I thought, the reality is that we are not. You need more than just astronaut food in a tub. I felt the communication plan was essential and something that I need to work on more with my kids. While I remember phone numbers, they do not. This was a great exercise and think my family should review it yearly if not every six months.-
Sally Wright 4/26/2022 3:21 PMI watched a thing about readiness planning and was amazed at how much we either don't think about (i.e., what's your toilet-use plan after a major catastrophe like an earthquake? You need a scat bucket and a lid at the very basic level) or how UNDER prepared we tend to be (none of us store up enough water to last each person under one roof 3 - 5 days. We invested in a military-grade water filter system so we could get water from pretty much any source, like our rain barrels or a freeking puddle if need be). I haven't even communicated to my kids about this stuff - thank you for your comment, because it reminded me that they need to be included in such things too!

REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & Livelihood Research Impact InvestingAfter learning more about investing, how can you increase positive impacts and decrease negative impacts?
Steven Hook 4/14/2022 2:55 PMI will look for companies that are investing in things that I care about such as free trade, are utilizing clean energy and actively take an interest in saving the planet, and then I will invest with them. -
Steven Hook 4/14/2022 2:44 PMIt's been amazing to just see some of the climate change this week. How often do we get snow in April? Most likely this is brought upon us due to our harming the earth through pollution. I was reflecting on this as I was looking at summer forecasts. We are definitely seeing trends that are unusual. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & Communities Induction CookingWould you consider using an induction cooking surface? If you have used one before, what do you like about induction cooking?
Steven Hook 4/12/2022 4:26 PMI currently have one. I wanted to move to gas. I think I will stay away from the gas. I would love to find an induction stovetop that doesn't stay hot when you take the pan off. My kids are always touching the stove or placing things on it. I'm constantly worried about a burn or a fire.-
Brian Nelson (SWMC) 4/12/2022 7:59 PMAre you sure it's an induction or is it an electric glass-top? I've seen ads where one guy was cooking something really greasy and he put a layer of paper towels down on the glass top, then cooked right through it because the surface doesn't get hot. I know they say that it never gets hot, but I'd think there'd be some sort of conduction occurring from the hot pan bottom...not hot enough to burn things, though, evidently. https://www.thespruceeats.com/what-is-an-induction-cooktop-995485

Brian Nelson (SWMC) 4/08/2022 10:14 AMVery cool! :)

REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & Ecosystems Join A Climate Action OrginizationWhat area of climate action are you most passionate about and why?
Steven Hook 4/08/2022 9:21 AMI am most passionate about the ocean. It is a key area to our ecosystem and the wildlife is fantastic. Our coral is so important and must be restored. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & Security Know Your ProduceWhat surprised you about the two produce lists? How will you use these lists for your grocery shopping? Have you used these lists before?
Steven Hook 4/08/2022 9:17 AMFirst time user. I was surprised that things I thought were okay are not. I have decided to create my own small garden to grow my own organic vegetables.-
Marci Rau 4/08/2022 10:48 AMI love this! It also gets you outside and digging in the dirt can be therapeutic!
