I am replacing areas of my lawn with plants that need little water to survive and also using mulch to help with water retention.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Basic Needs & Security Know Your Produce
What surprised you about the two produce lists? How will you use these lists for your grocery shopping? Have you used these lists before?

I was surprised to learn the produce I typically buy are on the high pesticides list. I will try to buy only organic produce to avoid this exposure to pesticides.

I used to volunteer weekly with Meals on Wheels, delivering meals to elderly and home-bound people. Although it didn't take much of my time, I think it made a big difference to people who were still living independently as it serves as a quick check-in to make sure they are okay, providing them with a healthy meal, and the opportunity for conversation and social interaction. You can't underestimate the power of the human connection, a smile, and a hot meal.

I would like to volunteer again with Meals on Wheels.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

I believe in sustainable gardening, and try to choose plants that are native and drought-tolerant with low water needs.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

Practicing a work-life balance helps to reduce my stress, ensures I'm focusing on the right priorities, and is better for my overall mental health and well-being.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health & Equity Spend Time Outside
What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?

Spending time outside is so beneficial to our mental and physical health.  Being outside always brings me back to life, helps me think clearly, and makes me feel invigorated. Those who spend the majority of their time inside and on screens are missing out on all the positive health benefits the outdoor world brings to our lives.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Basic Needs & Security Reduce Animal Product Consumption
What was the tastiest meatless or vegan meal you ever had or had recently? Did you make it? Can you share a recipe?

I went to a Thai restaurant in Sturbridge MA over the weekend and had a dish called pad see ew which is a stir-fried noodle dish. It was made with flat rice noodles, Chinese broccoli, carrots, and tofu. What makes this dish unique is a black soy sauce added at the end of the cooking process to stick to the noodles for an exaggerated caramelizing and charring effect. It was absolutely delicious!
