I am passionate about waste management. As of last year, I've been trying to do waste segregation. We've submitted at least 10 ecobricks with 2kg worth of plastics that we cut into tiny pieces. Some of my used plastics were sent to The Pink Flamingo where they upcycle the used plastics into plastic bricks and help build communities. Also, I've been looking for ways to lessen my trash like using reusable cotton pads, cloth pads, washcloths, reusable straws, and bringing my own bottled water. I am passionate with waste management because I believe that the world can

TIP NO. 4 Join Zero Waste and Eco-Friendly Communities. Joining communities with the same goal developed me and pushed me to become the better environment-lover version of myself. Because let’s face it, there are a lot of people who have already gone on a longer journey than me, and their suggestions, ideas, and experiences benefited me along the way. Through these communities, I learned about the Plaf, Green Antz, The Bamboo Company, and other organizations that collect and upcycle plastic, carton boxes, etc.

TIP NO. 3 Always have an eco bag.
When I was starting my zero waste / eco-friendly journey, I would always forget my eco bag. And I would think it’s ok we’re gonna use the plastic as trash bags anyway. But now, I realized that trash bags simply mean another plastic trash. Since then, I would always have a foldable eco bag inside my purse to ensure that I wouldn’t go home with another plastic. Also, we stopped putting our garbage in a trash bag and use rice sacks instead, which are way eco-friendly than plastics bags.

Why is the earth month ecochallenge important this Holy Week?
I could hear myself praying to God to save us from all the calamities that's been happening here and there. Most especially, after hearing that a lot of people were buried alive due to the landslides that happened in the Visayas area.
It seems to me, that just as how much we have taken for granted Jesus' sufferings on the cross to save us from sins. Is the same as taking for granted God's wonderful creation and allowing it to continuously suffer because of our recklessness.
But asking for forgiveness isn't enough, we need to do some actions, too. And this is where the ecochallenge comes. May this Holy Week help us to connect with God, with nature, and most especially with our inner-selves. May we offer our nature's sickness at the foot of the cross as a sign of surrender as we seek God's healing. May we be always reminded that the cross and the world are God's special gifts to all of us. Let's not waste them instead cherish them both. May we all have a blessed Holy Week.

TIP NO. 2 Education is the primary key.
The more I learn about the eco-friendly lifestyle, the more I can identify the steps I need to take. There are still plastics in our house. I do not hate plastic 100%, because I am afraid that hating it may give me an illusion of saving the earth despite all the plastics lying around the wasteland. I feel sad about it, but I do not curse people for giving me plastics— I educate them. If ever they learn from me, good. If not, I will do my part of cleaning all plastics given to me, dry, re-use, and sometimes give them to people who might need them, sellers, for example. For plastics that seem to have no use, like sealing caps and snack sachets, I clean, dry, collect, and make eco-bricks (my sister actually does this) or send them to the Plaf.

Will share here some stuff from my blog. Hope this could help all of us as we journey to environmental sustainability.

TIP NO. 1 Continue using what’s available.
Taking the very first step to zero waste or an eco-friendly lifestyle is most often than not, an illusion. Throwing the existing plastics that can be seen inside the house and buying new eco-friendly items is just insane ‘coz they add up to our current trash. Instead of doing so, I maximized what’s already available in the house. Instead of buying new bamboo tumblers, I used my existing plastic tumblers. Instead of buying new bamboo cutlery, I used my existing steel cutlery. This way, I can maximize my already available stuff rather than throwing them away and buying new things. No additional waste and no additional funds needed too.

    Health & Equity Practice Mindfulness
What was it like to practice mindfulness? If this is a practice for you already, what was something new you understood in practicing during Earth Month?

    Rizelita Flora 4/13/2022 4:25 AM
Practicing mindfulness helps me connect with God, with nature, and my inner self. This Earth Month, I am reminded of the reason why I am here on earth ---  to be a good steward of God's creation.

What did you think of the training? What new concepts did you learn?

The training is very informative. Though, it makes me sad knowing how our world is hurting. But the good thing is that a lot of people from all over the world, including private organizations and government agencies are taking responsibility towards environmental sustainability.

Basic Needs & Security Take 5-Minute Or Less Showers
With 5-minute or less showers reducing your water footprint, what do you plan to add next to your water conservation habits?

    Rizelita Flora's avatar
    Rizelita Flora 4/12/2022 4:53 AM
I started limiting my water usage when taking a bath.  I make sure to turn off the shower when not in use. Rather than using shower while taking a bath, using pail can help me manage and be conscious with my water consumption.

    "Let's love our home together!"
My dream is for my future children to take delight in this magnificent world. But for it to come true, I need to do my share of taking care of it. It was in 2021, when I first started my journey on sustainable living. It isn't easy. It's not perfect either. But I am happy as I continue doing it one-step at a time.
