Health & Equity Learn About Participation and Representation
What are some of the barriers that exist to women and girl's equitable participation or representation in your community? Do you experience these barriers?

There are many barriers that women and girl's face in our communities and workplace. The one that I found the most interesting in my research was menstrual periods and pain. Starting from elementary sex ed. boys and girls are separated creating a stigma surrounding the periods and pain associated with it.

Living in an apartment it is difficult to have a full grasp on my energy use. I think it would be immensely beneficial if apartment buildings were more transparent about their overall energy use and how tenants can reduce consumption.

I agree. With the current rental market, as I was trying to find a new place to live at an affordable price I felt conflicted about choosing based on environmental impact vs personal spend. I also hesitated to ask when touring, because it’s such a lessor’s market and didn’t want to disqualify myself by asking certain questions. Makes me pause and ponder what my true priorities are and if others are going through similar situations.

Basic Needs & Security Calculate Your Water Footprint
What is one way you will reduce your water use? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your water use?

The biggest way I am going to reduce my water use is by continuing to eat vegetarian. I have cut out meat for this month and that is one of the largest ways my water is being reduced now and it would be very beneficial to keep it that way!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Economy & Communities Understand Your Climate And Natural Disaster Risks
What are the climate and disaster risks in your region?

    Jewel Cook's avatar
    Jewel Cook 4/22/2022 7:33 AM
The largest risk is dangerous heat days, they are expected to increase by more than 50 days by 2050. Atlanta is the 19th fastest warming city in the US.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Economy & Communities Induction Cooking
Would you consider using an induction cooking surface? If you have used one before, what do you like about induction cooking?

    Jewel Cook's avatar
    Jewel Cook 4/22/2022 7:25 AM
In one of the cooking magazines I receive there was an article on induction booking and it was fascinating to learn more about the energy savings. I would absolutely consider an induction cooking surface when I purchase a house. It is difficult when living in an apartment to make these decision.

This check in has made me very conscious of what I have been spending my money on this past couple of weeks. It has caused me to think much more about what I purchase and if I actually need an item or not!

Recycling is an action I currently do that reduces my carbon footprint. In a couple months I will be completely getting rid of my car and only using public transit which will have the greatest overall reduction!
