The SDGs offer opportunities for closer environment–poverty integration. To be transformative, the SDGs need a broadening of measures and indicators. Indicators should include constituent roles of environment in wellbeing and poverty. A need to encourage locally shared visions of development that lead to action.

Gender equality prevents violence against women and girls. It's essential for economic prosperity. Societies that value women and men as equal are safer and healthier. Gender equality is a human right.

    Basic Needs & Security Volunteer
What was one of your most memorable volunteer experiences, and why? What would you like to volunteer for next, and why?

Volunteering at a food pantry was an humbling and fulfilling experience. In today's economy, volunteers often have been beneficiaries of the charitable donations others make to ensure there is not only enough food, but quality and nutritious food for all ages. Drive-through food distribution sites have become more prevalent, efficient and health conscious since the onset of the COVID era. I would like to volunteer at a senior citizen assisted living facility next. My preference would be one that doesn't have golf courses or 5-star menus. I have an affinity for people old enough to be my parents or grandparents. Too many have been discarded by their own families and need someone other than staff to show they care.

What was something important you learned about renter rights and affordable housing?

Unfortunately, a lot of the "renter rights" that appear to be concrete and indisputable are often ignored by landlords and law enforcement tends to be on the side of landlords. Renters should definitely require and thoroughly read written leases which stipulate tangible and agreed upon conditions of possession a property for a specified period of time. Affordable housing is a very subjective term and is often politicized and polarized.
