Linh Vuu 4/30/2022 12:48 PMThrough this challenge and the weekly chats, I've learned so many new ways to improve how I behave, consume, and interact with my environment. It was so much fun meeting other people with likeminded ideals! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & EcosystemsHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place? Was there a new place in your region that was exciting to learn about and visit?
Linh Vuu 4/14/2022 9:41 AMI am moving to Seattle from Austin and having fun exploring different neighborhoods as I figure out where I want to live -- currently just bunking with parents. I also don't exercise much so the 60 minutes of outdoor walking per day is the only way I can stay (somewhat) healthy. It is so much easier and pleasant to walk in Seattle because there is more accessible greenery and areas with less cars versus Austin (and TX in general) is just a bunch of freeways with cars driving 80+mph. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityHow have you reduced your purchasing habits and what would you like to do next to reduce your consumption habits?
Linh Vuu 4/14/2022 9:38 AMI already don't purchase a lot because I am trying to spend less money on "items" and more on "experiences" since I think it will provide me with longer-lasting good memories. And for the furniture in our home, most of our furniture is from buy-nothing groups. Next steps, I still want to cut down on how much I spend on clothes/shoes shopping and takeout -- most of these purchases are influenced by social media and I need to stop myself from being susceptible to marketing tactics! -
Linh Vuu 4/12/2022 11:51 AMIt's going generally well with my sustainable development goals so far. I'm being much more mindful about how much water I consume and how much plastic is used in packaging for groceries & every-day use items. Growing up in a low-income immigrant household, my family has always been mindful about the cost of resources and there is always a sense of appreciation for the "first-world" luxuries. Skip to today where I am in a more financially stable position, I find the need to remind myself to be empathetic towards communities that aren't able to experience the same standard of living I have now. And I am also reminding myself that SDG is fully comprehensive of how our society deals with systemic issues that impact the health of our environment and economy, and I should feel more empowered to find ways to help making sustainability attainable to all members of our community!-
Brooke Rolph 4/13/2022 12:36 PMThis is something I have thought about a lot. I would love to hear some of your thoughts at our review chat tomorrow. Often setting up and participating in sustainability is expensive.
