Weve been using Branch Basics concentrate to make all our soaps (bathroom cleaner, window cleaner, all-purpose cleaner, laundry, handsoap, etc.) for about two years now and we love it. Its safe around food and is very convenient. It reduces the use of single-use cleaning plastics and its safe for drains.

This research also encouraged me to get rid of some old paint sitting in my garage in a safe and effective way!

With 5-minute or less showers reducing your water footprint, what do you plan to add next to your water conservation habits?

Water is really pricey in Westminster - Shorter showers are a win for the environment and my wallet!

What surprised you about the two produce lists? How will you use these lists for your grocery shopping? Have you used these lists before?

I am not a fan of the 'dirty dozen.' Stanford University analyzed 237 published food studies to determine whether organic foods are safer or healthier than non-organic foods and concluded that fruits and veggies that met the criteria for organic were on average no more nutritious than their counterparts. If you learn more about organic farming and sustainability practices, you will also find that it not better for the environment. Lastly, the first dozen generates fear in buyers and creates a space where low-income families are made to feel 'less-than' for purchasing conventional fruits and veggies (when, in fact, they are doing wonderful things for their families)!

Thank you for sharing, Alanna. I never thought about it like that before. I appreciate the insight and will follow up in my own study to learn more.

My best friend works for a company called Equitas, they focus on gender-affirming care and  LGBTQ+ healthcare. We had a long conversation this past weekend about what that means in today's world where new laws are being passed that inhibit the  LGBTQ+ community to thrive. Highly recommend looking into this company and learning more about how you can become an advocate.

Some of the tastiest vegetarian (and sometimes vegan) meals I have consumed lately have been at my future-in-laws.' They are from Southern India and have learned to cook a variety of dishes without meat or animal products - Its always encouraging to see how many variations are possible in these southern asian meals! (Plus, who doenst love taking home leftovers?!)

We love a brand of pre-packaged breakfast bites, but they are all individually wrapped in plastic. Instead of purchasing these again, we went with homemade breakfast bites this week. (A bit more work, but even more delicious!)

What was it like to mend your clothing? If you are skilled at mending, what tips do you have for others?

I spent some time over the weekend mending a backpacking pack velcro. I started with iron-on adhesive, but that wasnt strong enough to hold so I broke out the sewing machine and stitched the two pieces together. TBD on if it holds up for a long backpack trip! Saved us hundreds of dollars of replacing the pack!

Very surprised to see how quickly water use adds up - Definitely have some room for growth in my outside water use in the gardens.
