REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityHow is food equity and access linked to a sustainable future?
cailyn spurrell 4/21/2022 9:35 AMI recently read an interesting article that attempted to argue against the "food desert" hypothesis. I went into this assuming that the food deserts were one of the main problems contributing to the lack of food equity, but now I'm not sure. The article argued that the increase in grocery delivery services during the pandemic helps to overcome food inequity- Especially since these services now easily accept SNAP. Online grocery delivery is about to kill food deserts (slate.com) -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & LivelihoodHow does practicing a work-life balance create a more sustainable life for you? How might it contribute to sustainability more broadly?
cailyn spurrell 4/21/2022 9:30 AMOne way that work-life balance creates a more sustainable family system is that we are actually home to eat breakfast and dinner as a family. We waste less food and use less plastic packaging (etc) by eating at home and making time to bring food to work as well. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?
cailyn spurrell 4/19/2022 3:28 PMMy favorite sounds right now are the birds chirping in the morning. I like to lay in bed and listen for a few minutes every day. But I have noticed when I immediately check my phone when I wake up, I no longer focus on those sounds and the chilly morning breeze coming in the window. Those little moments are lost when we're primarily inside (or even out and about!) and all our attention is on our little pocket screens.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat was the tastiest meatless or vegan meal you ever had or had recently? Did you make it? Can you share a recipe?
cailyn spurrell 4/06/2022 9:05 AMWe made a version of fettuccine alfredo last night, with roasted broccoli on the side. Didn't miss the meat, and it was so yummy! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat benefits does the sharing economy offer to you and others? If you are a little shy to try, what could be a first step for you?
cailyn spurrell 4/04/2022 8:38 AMOur neighborhood has an active "buy nothing" group, and I've been able to both pass on lightly used children's gear, and refrain from buying new stuff by engaging with the facebook group!
