REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & CommunitiesWhat most interested or surprised you about your energy audit?
Mickey Jo Sorrell 4/07/2022 7:35 AMNo house for me. I'm currently traveling between my children's homes. My energy use is fairly small right now and, with a well-insulated tiny home in my future, I expect to keep it that way. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & EcosystemsWhat ecological or xeriscape landscaping practices do you have? How has your landscape changed from these practices?
Mickey Jo Sorrell 4/07/2022 7:30 AMI am living in the house my father built - and landscaped - in 1947. Eleagnus, crepe myrtles, abelias, and privets are part of the legacy. I will be working to control and to honor, while adding a rich assortment of natives. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWho is affected by water insecurity in your region? How are they affected? How are you impacted by water insecurity?
Mickey Jo Sorrell 4/07/2022 7:25 AMI still can't speak to this with any real knowledge, but I was amazed by these readings. I know that in NC, along the Cape Fear, there is a significant PFAS problem that is still not adequately addressed. I have always had good water, but I did not realize how privileged I am. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat was one of your most memorable volunteer experiences, and why? What would you like to volunteer for next, and why?
Mickey Jo Sorrell 4/07/2022 7:15 AMI love gardening and have found so much pleasure in the local community gardening, working side by side with new friends. Produce goes to the local food pantry. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat was surprising about the ingredients in your cleaning supplies, personal care, and pet products?
Mickey Jo Sorrell 4/07/2022 6:58 AMI've been careful about this for a long time. Even so, there are names of chemicals I can't pronounce and do not know where they come from. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?
Mickey Jo Sorrell 4/07/2022 6:57 AMYes, I wonder this often. My grandkids are all about their screens. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityHow did you incorporate using an entire vegetable (skins, peels, tops, and stalks) during one of your meal preps? What's something new you're going to try that is a zero-waste meal practice?
Mickey Jo Sorrell 4/07/2022 6:55 AMI've changed the way I slice apples so that I eat the entire apple. Okay, I usually throw the stem in the compost. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat was the tastiest meatless or vegan meal you ever had or had recently? Did you make it? Can you share a recipe?
Mickey Jo Sorrell 4/07/2022 6:54 AMI've been a vegetarian over 50 years. I'm all about the veggie stir-fry with rice and tofu. YUM! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWith 5-minute or less showers reducing your water footprint, what do you plan to add next to your water conservation habits?
Mickey Jo Sorrell 4/07/2022 6:50 AMMost weeks I don't shower every day - at least in cooler weather. I also collect rain water for the garden and outdoor uses.
