It's going ok. A challenge like this really keeps me focused on goals and reminds me how quickly we can become distracted from making sustainable changes in our routines.

What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?

Too much time on screens disconnects us from one another in the "here and now." Sure, there are many ways to feel "connected" via email, social media, FaceTime but none of them replace the strength of in-person human connection. I recently experienced this first hand at my first in-person 2 day retreat for PeaceHealth. It was the first time since being hired in June 2021 that I met any of my colleagues in person and let me tell you, it was magical!

WOW!  So glad you had the opportunity to meet face to face!  It does make a tremendous difference.

How does practicing a work-life balance create a more sustainable life for you? How might it contribute to sustainability more broadly?

I can only be at my best when I am grounded, rested and feel an equilibrium between my work life and non-work life (home, kids, self-care, etc). I am calmer and can make rational decisions rather than be in panic-mode. I think overall, the energy it takes to practice a regular routine to achieve work-life balance is reduced when this is built in to our everyday lives, rather than saved up and exerted only at a breaking point.

If I must use plastic bags, I've committed that they must be compostable. My go-to for sandwich and snack baggies: responsibleproducts.com
I also really like the reusable silicon snack bags that can be found online and in stores.

Local Oregon company that promotes zero waste: Well Earth Goods, out of Medford. I switched to using their laundry detergent "strips" and love them. No more clunky plastic bottles. Same for BlueDot.com for cleaning supplies.
