  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Economy & Communities
What was it like to create a readiness plan? Did you find other resources you could share?

I didn't really think there would be many alternatives to a drought but I've learned that I can plant native and/or drought-tolerant grasses, ground covers, shrubs and trees. They don't need water as frequently and usually will survive a dry period without watering. Install water efficient irrigation devices, such as micro and drip irrigation and soaker hoses.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Basic Needs & Security
What surprised you about the two produce lists? How will you use these lists for your grocery shopping? Have you used these lists before?

    Alejandro Ruiz 4/28/2022 8:21 AM
Haven't used this list before but it wouldn't hurt to give it a try, not all of it but in parts to slowly adjust to it.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Basic Needs & Security
Who is affected by water insecurity in your region? How are they affected? How are you impacted by water insecurity?

    Alejandro Ruiz's avatar

Local ranches where livestock are grown and grazed to produce meat and other products. They're impacted due to the lack of water access, since other farmers use their wealth power to have more control of the water distribution.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Basic Needs & Security
What watershed do you live in presently? What is something interesting or unique about your watershed?

    Alejandro Ruiz's avatar
    Alejandro Ruiz 4/20/2022 11:42 AM
The great basin. There’s very little water because mountain run-off has no outlet, collects in shallow salty lakes, and disappears in the heat of summer.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Basic Needs & Security
What was something important you learned about renter rights and affordable housing?

    Alejandro Ruiz's avatar
    Alejandro Ruiz 4/20/2022 11:37 AM
Prefabricated homes, container homes, and monolithic dome homes are just some of the most affordable new homes.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

What was one of your most memorable volunteer experiences, and why? What would you like to volunteer for next, and why?

    Alejandro Ruiz's avatar
    Alejandro Ruiz 4/20/2022 11:34 AM
I volunteer for "Domingo Feliz" (Happy Sunday). It's a free admission event that occurs at a local park and it includes carnival like games for young children. I would love to one day volunteer at an animal shelter.

    Basic Needs & Security
What was a linking factor across this group of SDGs?

    Alejandro Ruiz's avatar
    Alejandro Ruiz 4/20/2022 11:31 AM
To end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

Where does the energy in your region come from? Which energy is a renewable source?

    Alejandro Ruiz's avatar

Chihuahua has solar farms in the municipalities of Ahumada, Camargo, Jimenez, Ascension, Galeana and Juarez, which deliver energy to CFE and other larger consumers in the electricity market. Solar panels.
