I learned a "use it up/make it do" ethos from my parents who grew up during the Depression Era. Studying ecology in college and learning about the ecosystem consequences of tropic deforestation and experiencing the first "Earth Day" pushed me towards exploring how I could minimize my impact.  I see the Challenge as a great opportunity to reassess the choices I routinely make and to be exposed to some new ideas.
