Why is it important to honor native and indigenous peoples and cultures? What have you learned that is important to you? If you identify with or are a member of an indigenous group, how does your community practice sustainability?

I live on the land of the Multnomah, one of the Chinook tribes. I found out that those that survived illnesses of the 1830's have since been incorporated into the confederated tribes of the Grand Ronde and the Warm Springs.
The history of trading among the native tribes, in a sense, carries on now with much trade passing through our area.

My plan is to read the book: Becoming Rooted: One Hundred Days of Reconnection with the Sacred Earth by Randy Woodley, who is of the Keetoowah Band of the Cherokee. He lives and works outside of Portland, OR at Eloheh Indigenous Center for Earth and Justice. This book reminds us of our place on earth and actions to honor place.

Pollinators keep everything growing.
I must admit that I am partial to bees, but I also love bats and can sit an watch them for as long as they swoop and fly about.
Our front garden is already "kind of wild", but I plan to plant more native plants in the back. We don't mow that often, maybe once a week, or less. In the backyard we have our veggies, so we welcome pollinators all seasons!

What was it like to mend your clothing? If you are skilled at mending, what tips do you have for others?

I love the idea of "creating new clothes", by mending in a way that makes them a little different than they were at first.
I also tend to put off mending, such as sewing buttons back on and mending a hem. These are "tedious tasks", so I don't enjoy them. I grew up mending clothes and wearing them until I couldn't, so this is nothing new, but a good reminder to "spruce up" my clothing, or pass it along sooner.

I stopped to talk with a neighbor yesterday evening and we got to talking about the challenge of saying "No". He was raised to always be ready to do things for other people, as have I. Our challenge has been to say, "No", when we don't have the time and then we end up overcommitted and stressed. We are learning to either simply say, "No." or saying, "No, I can't do that at this time, I would have more time in three months, if that works for you." For example.

I was surprised to see sweet corn on the "clean list". I have been surprised in the past that apples are on the "dirty list". I will see if I can talk my husband into buying organic apples, since he eats an apple a day. I have glanced at the lists before and try to orient my shopping accordingly. I have tended to buy organic ever since there has been this option.

So many implications! Lack of vitamin D, lack of exercise, lack of physical connection, eye problems and the rest of the body challenges, a disconnect from the real world/though I do enjoy interacting with people around the world on Zoom.
