  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Basic Needs & Security
How did you incorporate using an entire vegetable (skins, peels, tops, and stalks) during one of your meal preps? What's something new you're going to try that is a zero-waste meal practice?

    Ioana Rat 4/29/2022 6:20 AM
I've come to learn that I actually like some of my vegetables with peel on (like cucumber, radish)...and the salad looks better and more colorful like that :)
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health & Equity
How is food equity and access linked to a sustainable future?

    Ioana Rat's avatar
    Ioana Rat 4/29/2022 6:18 AM
Sustainable food production depends on the availability of fertile land, water, nutrients, and an adequate climate. Food sustainability is about generating food at a productivity level that is enough to maintain the human population.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health & Equity
Why is equity for gender diverse individuals important for a just and sustainable society?

    Ioana Rat's avatar
    Ioana Rat 4/29/2022 6:15 AM
Societies that value women and men as equal are safer& healthier and with a more prosperous economy. Moreover,  gender equality prevents violence against women and girls.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health & Equity
What are some of the barriers that exist to women and girl's equitable participation or representation in your community? Do you experience these barriers?

    Ioana Rat's avatar
    Ioana Rat 4/29/2022 6:11 AM
Workplace culture, unequal pay, lack of female leaders, gender stereotypes, lack of flexible work practices, affordability and accessibility of childcare, sexism, lack of mentors, societal expectations regarding gender roles (e.g. household work/childcare).
Yes, I can relate to some of these barriers but I have to admit things are starting to improve in some of these areas.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Education & Livelihood

    Ioana Rat's avatar
    Ioana Rat 4/29/2022 6:03 AM
Love both mountain and sea areas but one place I really connect with is Cluj Apuseni Mountains.

Most recent activity I've been involved in was reforestation but there are so many other activities that can be done to support sustainability...
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Economy & Communities
Where does the energy in your region come from? Which energy is a renewable source?

    Ioana Rat's avatar
    Ioana Rat 4/29/2022 5:49 AM
Energy production in Romania comes from hydro, nuclear, coil, wind, hydrocarbs, biomass, solar.
Renewable sources: solar, wind, hydro, solid biofuels, other.
Attaching here one awesome chart, shared during EU Greening Together Summit, earlier this month. Have you ever imagined tha
t 67.5% of the energy produced is lost and only 32.7% of the produced energy is actually used?...
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Economy & Communities
Would you consider using an induction cooking surface? If you have used one before, what do you like about induction cooking?

    Ioana Rat's avatar
    Ioana Rat 4/29/2022 5:26 AM
Absolutely yes. There are many advantages to using induction cooking surface, that cannot be ignored: 50% faster heating/ boiling, precise temperature control, easy-to-clean surface, auto-sizing burners.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health & Equity
Do you have any tips for others on finding locations that accept products for safe disposal?

    Ioana Rat's avatar
    Ioana Rat 4/28/2022 5:45 AM
Pharma stores are all around so it should not be a problem for anybody to locate one and take the expired drugs there for safe disposal. Not a good idea to just drop these in the garbage as these might get into soil and pollute it with toxic substances.
