On this last day of the eco challenge I look back and think of all the little things I changed and the little actions I did. By themselves not monumental but if everyone did just that much the impact could be huge. The journey of a 1000 miles starts with one step....said someone somewhere once upon a time!

This is how we should all be thinking!  Nice thought.  Thanks for sharing, Sunil :)
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Education & Livelihood
After learning more about investing, how can you increase positive impacts and decrease negative impacts?

    SUNIL RAMGULAM's avatar
    SUNIL RAMGULAM 4/29/2022 1:01 PM
Choosing companies and investment options with a positive environmental impact were not on my radar before this month. Seeing the impact of all the little actions that can increase the overall greater good has definitely opened my eyes. Although my current investments are not doing so well, when it will be time to change I will make better choices in terms of the impact on the environment and social issues.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Climate & Ecosystems
What ecological or xeriscape landscaping practices do you have? How has your landscape changed from these practices?

    SUNIL RAMGULAM's avatar
    SUNIL RAMGULAM 4/28/2022 12:36 PM
Surprisingly although there is residential composting our local school where my kids attend do not have it. We actually give our kids reusable bags to bring home their compostable waste from lunches/snacks to put it in the bins at home. It has caught with a few classmates and teachers.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Basic Needs & Security
What is one way you will reduce your water use? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your water use?

    SUNIL RAMGULAM's avatar
    SUNIL RAMGULAM 4/28/2022 12:33 PM
Quicker showers already doing that. Bought rain barrels to collect water for the garden. Low flow shower head. Low flow flush toilet planned for bathroom reno.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health & Equity
What are some of the barriers that exist to women and girl's equitable participation or representation in your community? Do you experience these barriers?

    SUNIL RAMGULAM's avatar
    SUNIL RAMGULAM 4/26/2022 7:24 PM
Working primarily in the sports world we see the inequalties faced by women at every level of sport participation. The recognition they get, even the financial and government support. Recently our women's hockey team won the provincial championship and for the first time they are getting tremendous recognition in the media. We are fortunate that one of our players father works with this media. I question would it have had the same impact had he not been there?
The old saying of: it's not what you know, but WHO you know, still plays a vital role today. We continue to promote our teams the best way possible and hope that they get the recognition they deserve.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health & Equity
Why is equity for gender diverse individuals important for a just and sustainable society?

    SUNIL RAMGULAM's avatar
    SUNIL RAMGULAM 4/26/2022 7:19 PM
In a just and sustainable society we would need people participating equally from all walks of life. Equitable representation will only help this process move along faster.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Education & Livelihood
Do you believe signing the Accord will bring about change?

    SUNIL RAMGULAM's avatar
    SUNIL RAMGULAM 4/26/2022 7:15 PM
It is the first step. The need to increase awareness and educate people is at the root of any grassroot movement. Having people think about, learn about the issues can lead them to making more informed choices.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Education & Livelihood
What place in your region are you most excited to visit during your staycation?

    SUNIL RAMGULAM's avatar
    SUNIL RAMGULAM 4/22/2022 12:33 PM
So much to see just around campus...MAC farm, Arboretum, Aviaion Museum, Ste Anne locks. Looks of things to keep the kids entertained, can travel via bus or even train.

The rising price of gas makes staycations even that more appealing!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Climate & Ecosystems
What tables did you visit? What did you learn?

    SUNIL RAMGULAM's avatar
    SUNIL RAMGULAM 4/21/2022 8:15 AM
Got my tomato plant seedlings from Rick! Now let's just hope the squirrels don't get to them before the harvest!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Education & Livelihood
What is one thing you can do to help your community become more sustainable?

    SUNIL RAMGULAM's avatar
    SUNIL RAMGULAM 4/19/2022 10:06 AM
Use my social media and the community social media platforms to increase awareness about sustainability issues. There are often city groups chats/pages where people are looking to make a difference. It could a simple little change but if done on a large scale the impact can be significant.
