Public transportation
I will take public transportation to work at least once per week.
Climate & Ecosystems
Learn About Invasive Species
SDG #14 & 15
I will spend 10 minutes learning about invasive species and ways to reduce their impacts.
Climate & Ecosystems
Ecological & Xeriscape Gardening
SDG #14 & 15
I will do one or more of the following actions in my yard, or volunteer in my community: plant indigenous plants, landscape with water-efficient plants, add mulching, replace a lawn, and/or use eco-friendly fertilizers.
Climate & Ecosystems
Explore My Area
SDG #14 & 15
Each day, I will spend 30 minutes exploring a new area around my neighborhood (e.g., park, water body, nearby trail, community garden, green space, etc.).
Basic Needs & Security
Know Your Produce
SDG #2 Zero Hunger
I will visit ewg.org to learn about and use their Clean 15 and Dirty Dozen produce lists.
Basic Needs & Security
Take 5-Minute Or Less Showers
SDG #6 Water & Sanitation
I will save up to 6 gallons (23 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers. Tip: Use a timer to practice or count to 60 a few times.
Climate & Ecosystems
Support Local Pollinators
SDG #15 Life On Land
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will spend 10 minutes researching which plants support local pollinators and plant some in my area.
Health & Equity
Cleaning Product Ingredients
SDG #3 Health & Well-Being
I will spend 10 minutes each day studying the toxic chemicals found in cleaning supplies, personal care, and pet products around my home.
Economy & Communities
Induction Cooking
SDG #7 Energy
I will spend 5 minutes learning about induction cooking and consider if I could add this to my food prep methods.
Economy & Communities
Connect With A Nonprofit
SDG #12 Consumption & Production
Each day, I will spend 10 minutes learning about nonprofit organizations that focuses on sustainable consumption and production patterns so that I could participate in their activities.

Find out where your energy comes from
SDG #7 Energy
I will spend 10 minutes learning about where my energy comes from.
Health & Equity
Safe Disposal of Medications and Household Chemicals
SDG #3 Health & Well-Being
I will spend 5 minutes learning about how and where to dispose of medications and chemicals properly.
Education & Livelihood
Learn About The Education & Livelihood SDGs
SDG #4, 8, 11 & 17
I will spend 10 minutes learning about these SDGs.
Climate & Ecosystems
[WSP custom action] Embodied Carbon Action Plan
WSP has signed the Structural Engineering Institute 2050 Commitment (SE 2050) to reduce embodied carbon in structural systems. Read WSP's newly published embodied carbon action plan (ECAP).
Climate & Ecosystems
[WSP Custom Action] Take Five And Find Out What it Takes to Reach Net-Zero!
Do you know what it will take to reach net-zero? Do you know which technologies and innovations are needed to keep warming below 2°C or 1.5°C? Take five minutes to see if your ideas on investments can get us to net zero!

REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & CommunitiesWhere does the energy in your region come from? Which energy is a renewable source?
Christopher Neisius 4/26/2022 8:20 AMAccording to eia.gov, in 2020, roughly 60% of Washington's energy was produced from hydroelectric dams. The Grand Coulee Dam hydroelectric plant (7th largest in the world) typically produces more than 21 million megawatthours per year. This energy is distributed to 8 states and Canada. However, droughts can drastically reduce this power output - in 2019, only 17 megawatthours were produced. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & EcosystemsWhat is one invasive species in your region and how does it impact your region's ecosystem?
Christopher Neisius 4/25/2022 6:07 PMPoison Hemlock is an invasive species that can be found throughout Washington. It is toxic and can kill humans, livestock, and animals. It's a member of the carrot family and often found in open sunny areas. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & CommunitiesWould you consider using an induction cooking surface? If you have used one before, what do you like about induction cooking?
Christopher Neisius 4/19/2022 8:18 AMI would consider an induction to replace gas/electric. Since they directly transfer heat to the pot, heat isn't lost during the transfer process. They also heat food more quickly. Also, installing an induction cooktop in a house would provide an opportunity to move away from natural gas entirely. -
Christopher Neisius 4/05/2022 10:30 AMRecently, I have been exploring new was to get around other than by car. Taking the bus is surprisingly easy, and it lets me take back 45 minutes in my day to do something else, like read a book. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & EcosystemsWhy is it important to take care of pollinators? Do you have a favorite pollinator?
Christopher Neisius 4/05/2022 10:24 AMPollinators are not only essential to grow foods we eat, but also to keep plant populations thriving, which reduces erosion and carbon dioxide. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWith 5-minute or less showers reducing your water footprint, what do you plan to add next to your water conservation habits?
Christopher Neisius 4/01/2022 4:15 PMI used to shower every single day. But I have realized that on days I am just sitting at home or not exercising, I don't need to shower again. This is a good way to save water. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat surprised you about the two produce lists? How will you use these lists for your grocery shopping? Have you used these lists before?
Christopher Neisius 4/01/2022 4:12 PMI have heard of these lists. I will keep the dirty dozen and clean 15 in mind when deciding to buy organic produce.
