REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & LivelihoodWhat is one thing you can do to help your community become more sustainable?
Chaitra Manjunath 4/29/2022 5:58 AMThere are lot of farmlands and open spaces in my township and that is a good thing for the residents as there are lot of options for outdoor activities. The one thing I can do to help my community to become more sustainable is to encourage the residents to start composting locally so all the food scraps don't end up in trash but get into the soil which makes the soil organically fertile, helps the microorganisms to thrive which demands for carbon content and the plants absorb the carbon from the atmosphere to feed the micro-organisms thus reducing the carbon food print in the atmosphere.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityHow is food equity and access linked to a sustainable future?
Chaitra Manjunath 4/29/2022 5:44 AMIf all people have the right to equal access to or the ability to grow and consume healthful, affordable, and culturally significant foods, this will result in eliminating food deserts in low-income areas, enhance the health and quality of life of low-income people, and ultimately result in improving the economy of the areas and environmental conditions. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?
Chaitra Manjunath 4/27/2022 6:16 AMPeople who spend most of their time inside and on screens become more impatient, easily irritable, stressful, lack proper cognitive skills, and physically weak to some extent. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityHow did you incorporate using an entire vegetable (skins, peels, tops, and stalks) during one of your meal preps? What's something new you're going to try that is a zero-waste meal practice?
Chaitra Manjunath 4/27/2022 6:13 AMThere are a few recipes which you can make using the entire vegetables.
1. Salad - I used lettuce, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, carrots, cabbage, sunflower and pumking seeds, and salad dressing.
2. Ridge gourd dal and ridge gourd chutney - peel the spikes of ridge gourd and cook it with moong dal and spices. Then add seasoning in the end. I grind the peeled spikes with coconut and spices to make a yummy chutney. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWith 5-minute or less showers reducing your water footprint, what do you plan to add next to your water conservation habits?
Chaitra Manjunath 4/25/2022 11:10 AMNext, i would like to motivate my family members to also reduce their shower time. One other thing i would like to incorporate is to use dishwasher more often than hand washing the vessels and i have read that this way we can save more water. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & LivelihoodWhat was a linking factor across this group of SDGs?
Chaitra Manjunath 4/20/2022 1:00 PMThe linking factor across this group of SDGs #4, #8, #11 and #17 is that promoting lifelong learning leads to productive employment which further leads to sustainable cities which results in strong trade across global partnerships.
WSP's collaboration with Bridge to Prosperity is bringing sustainable solutions to communities that are under-developed across the globe. This is simply awesome! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & CommunitiesWhat was a linking factor across this group of SDGs?
Chaitra Manjunath 4/20/2022 12:40 PMThe linking factor across this group of SDGs #7, #9 and #12 is the sustainable energy, industrialization and production patters.
I am amazed with the way this team built the bridge without using any sophisticated machinery, just bare hands and simple tools. Hats off to the entire WSP team!!! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & EcosystemsBy taking actions in your daily life, which SDG do you think you can have the biggest impact on?
Chaitra Manjunath 4/12/2022 10:06 AMBy being part of the Savesoil movement on a daily basis and spreading awareness of the global soil crisis, the biggest impact I am able to make is on SDG #15 - Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss. -
Chaitra Manjunath 4/02/2022 9:37 AMHello Everyone,
I am a volunteer for the Savesoil movement working to spread awareness about this global movement which is bringing people and leaders together to restore soil health. The UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) has reported that, unless we rapidly change how we manage our soils, 90% of it could become degraded by 2050, which will result in a global food crisis. The Save Soil movement aims to increase organic content in soil to a minimum of 3-6%. To effect this change we need to advocate for policies across all nations towards soil restoration and raise awareness of this imminent crisis among 3.5 billion people to garner their support. Please visit savesoil.org/consciousplanet.org for more information about how to become an Earth Buddy and help prevent our soil from desertification. -
