REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & CommunitiesWhat was one nonprofit organization that was exciting to learn about?
Larissa Malone 4/25/2022 4:37 PMThere are so many different non profits to learn about and learn from. The ones that are important to me contribute to the conservation of animals both here in the Northwest and around the world. Conservation Northwest is one of the largest contributors to the data collection and volunteer work here in WA, and I learned a lot about their program and hope to do my own volunteering in the future! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat surprised you about the two produce lists? How will you use these lists for your grocery shopping? Have you used these lists before?
Larissa Malone 4/22/2022 12:12 PMI’ve never seen these lists, and thought it was interesting that there was such a diverse range of food types on each. I know I make the right choices for my health in taking advantage of all the local farms and produce stands in my area, and enjoy going straight to the fields many months of the year. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat is one way you will reduce your water use? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your water use?
Larissa Malone 4/22/2022 12:07 PMI have a small water footprint, until its accounted for food and travel. If only the small positive choices we make on a daily basis with our personal living habits could translate into more water saved. Calculating my personal footprint helps me imagine how much water large corporations and facilities use on a daily basis, and how important “efficient” facilities are, and why making large changes and building with conservation in mind is so important! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWith 5-minute or less showers reducing your water footprint, what do you plan to add next to your water conservation habits?
Larissa Malone 4/18/2022 9:05 AMI’ve always been fairly water conscious, but showers are for sure the place I waste the most. Paying attention to what I’m doing in the shower, and planning ahead to not “dally” while getting ready has helped me cut down shower time. -

Larissa Malone 4/18/2022 8:59 AMI wanted to make sure I joined this challenge again this year since I learned SO MUCH last year. This year has been more challenging; I’ve been busier, feeling more stressed, and just not feeling positive about the state of the world. Even though I haven’t checked in daily, when I do I know I’m making a lot of small changes, even when I’m not checking in. Something that matters to me and will continue to matter. The daily tasks make me realize how much I DO accomplish daily, weekly, monthly, and that the real point of all this is to have tasks become positive lifestyle changes! I’m changing slowly, and continuing my good habits, and I know it makes a small difference! Happy exploring, and I hope everyone makes a little bit of difference today! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityDo you have any tips for others on finding locations that accept products for safe disposal?
Larissa Malone 4/18/2022 8:47 AMI’m super excited to try out the company Ridwell! They take many different materials that I haven’t been able to properly recycle or trash in the past. There are also many different waste facilities that are located in the surrounding counties that I now will utilize! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & LivelihoodWhat place in your region are you most excited to visit during your staycation?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & EcosystemsHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place? Was there a new place in your region that was exciting to learn about and visit?
Larissa Malone 4/18/2022 8:41 AMI’ve been exploring almost weekly for as long as I remember, and if I don’t get my outdoor time in, it really effects my mental health! But I was getting stuck visiting the same places, so this has made me try new ones! I found a new beach that is now going to be one of my favorites! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityHow did you incorporate using an entire vegetable (skins, peels, tops, and stalks) during one of your meal preps? What's something new you're going to try that is a zero-waste meal practice?
Larissa Malone 4/18/2022 8:38 AMI’m still working on using all the parts of my food, but have found that by paying more attention to veggies when I purchase them helps me keep the waste down. Also, so many “waste” foods can be made into a mash that can be added to a pets food! They love the extra treats!
