REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & LivelihoodWhat place in your region are you most excited to visit during your staycation?
Khalilah Lushiku 4/29/2022 4:34 AMI'm really excited to hike in the Catskills. I feel like that's the best way to experience them, mix tranquility with stress and action, and not worry about displacing communities by staying in an Airbnb. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & LivelihoodWhat was a linking factor across this group of SDGs?
Khalilah Lushiku 4/29/2022 4:32 AMThe linking factor across all of these goals is that people need money, or at least an absence of debt, to address these problems. It seems like some of these goals are in opposition to others, while others are new sides to the same problem coin. For example, developing countries need foreign investment in building sustainability. How is that different from predatory "partnerships" that are already taking place between former colonial powers and their newly independent former colonies? I also found it interesting that international tourism still seems to be a necessity for sustainable economic growth, when other aspects of this challenge have asked us to plan "staycations" because of the huge carbon footprint attached to air travel. Maybe in order to be truly sustainable, countries need to look for sources of economic growth within their own borders? -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat was a linking factor across this group of SDGs?
Khalilah Lushiku 4/27/2022 4:16 AMHuge gaps in equality and inclusivity are hindering the goal of attaining a peaceful society that's able to build accountable, sustainable institutions. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & EcosystemsWhat was a linking factor across this group of SDGs?
Khalilah Lushiku 4/22/2022 12:25 PMIf we don't take significant steps to address climate change, there will be more loss of life (dead zones, endangered/extinct animals, etc) -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & EcosystemsWrite three words to describe your walk.
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & EcosystemsWhat ecological or xeriscape landscaping practices do you have? How has your landscape changed from these practices?
Khalilah Lushiku 4/22/2022 9:34 AMMy balcony is now a flower and vegetable garden. It is a LOT more pollinator friendly! I am both excited and nervous about this. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & CommunitiesHow might you be able to get others involved in advocating for the clean energy shift?
Khalilah Lushiku 4/14/2022 5:50 AMI want to see how much more this shift ends up costing me in dollars each month (to be honest, I'm nervous about the extra expense) before I push this onto others. I know that the long term sustainable effects will be beneficial if everyone gets involved, but I'm also worried about asking friends to take on more personal costs. HOWEVER if this doesn't end up being too expensive, that will be an extra selling point! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat was a linking factor across this group of SDGs?
Khalilah Lushiku 4/13/2022 5:44 AMTo meet these goals, you need money, access at a local level, and partnership between governments and civilians. I also think it might be necessary for developing countries to have their post-colonial debts forgiven in order to make sustainable systemic improvements. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat surprised you about the two produce lists? How will you use these lists for your grocery shopping? Have you used these lists before?
Khalilah Lushiku 4/04/2022 11:58 AMI've never used these lists before, and they made me sad to think about all the strawberries and apples I buy. This past weekend, I planted spinach and tomatoes, and I bought bell peppers for their seeds. So at least I can stay more away from the dirty dozen. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & CommunitiesWhat was it like to mend your clothing? If you are skilled at mending, what tips do you have for others?
Khalilah Lushiku 4/03/2022 2:05 PMIt was fulfilling to mend my own clothing, but also time consuming. I have hemmed two pairs of pants, and discovered holes in a few more pieces of clothing. I'll fix those too...eventually!
