REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat was it like to practice mindfulness? If this is a practice for you already, what was something new you understood in practicing during Earth Month?
Anita Lavey 4/25/2022 9:39 AMI just learned about the rule of thirds. When you are working toward a goal, one third of the time you will feel GREAT, one third of the time you will feel kinda weak, and one third of the time, you will feel totally down. This is normal, and don't expect to feel great every day toward your goal. This is from Alex Pappas, Olympic runner who heard this from her Olympic coach. What terrific advice -- I know that as I am working to build a stronger vision and mindfulness, this will help me toward that goal. For Salesforce employees, it was from a Be-well session on April 25th. Alex also has a book that I will read. -
Anita Lavey 4/24/2022 8:57 PMThis is a constant effort. I am glad that there is an outlet for my environmental efforts. -
Anita Lavey 4/15/2022 11:16 AMI feel like I need to spend more time near the Oakland parks. Every time I pass the homeless areas, I want to CLEAN up their environment and give them care packages. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & LivelihoodWhat place in your region are you most excited to visit during your staycation?
Anita Lavey 4/15/2022 11:14 AMWe are planning to stay home this Easter. Normally, we would drive at least two hours to another family home. We will save gas and carbon. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityDo you have any tips for others on finding locations that accept products for safe disposal?
Anita Lavey 4/15/2022 11:13 AMWe use a tremendous amount of medications each month. I have counted that we use over 20 medication bottles each month!! I am collecting these bottles and will recycle them at the local CVS. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & EcosystemsWhat ecological or xeriscape landscaping practices do you have? How has your landscape changed from these practices?
Anita Lavey 4/15/2022 11:12 AMI am now only planting roses and ground cover plants that will not take too much water. In addition, I am also making sure that they are flowering plants that attract bees and hummingbirds. -
Anita Lavey 4/14/2022 10:25 AMI feel like I can do this every day. It will help me to focus on my #TeamEarth goals. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & EcosystemsHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place? Was there a new place in your region that was exciting to learn about and visit?
Anita Lavey 4/14/2022 10:23 AMI was noticing that my roses have taken a beating during this drought. They need pruning, but some of them are still GORGEOUS. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & EcosystemsWhat plastic or single-use items do you regularly use? What did you substitute or could be substituted?
Anita Lavey 4/14/2022 10:22 AMI use recyclable grocery bags. I feel that if I reuse them and then put them in the reycle bin of my garbage, then I'm doing my part. I place all my recycling items -- bottles, cans, etc in the bag and throw the entire bag in the recycle bin. -
Anita Lavey 4/13/2022 8:28 AMI have also been participating in the Free The Ocean's effort to eliminate plastic from our oceans. Everyday you answer a trivia question, a piece of plastic is removed from the ocean. It also hosts a shop that sells everyday sustainability products. If you buy something, you fund 10 pieces of plastic removed from the ocean. I make it my daily thing to do, next to my Wordle! try it at freetheocean.com Also, I make sure to recycle ALL my plastic bags and use cloth bags whenever possible.
