What surprised you about the two produce lists? How will you use these lists for your grocery shopping? Have you used these lists before?

    Seth Krause 4/25/2022 11:02 AM
I was surprised to see spinach and kale on the dirty dozen list.  When shopping, I will be sure to purchase organic options from the produce listed on the dirty dozen list, namely kale, spinach and strawberries.

I have used these lists in the past, but it is important to remain up to date and understand the current trends in the produce industry.

Where does the energy in your region come from? Which energy is a renewable source?

    Seth Krause's avatar
    Seth Krause 4/20/2022 5:39 PM
Most of the energy in my region of New England comes from Natural Gas (53%).  Hydropower (6.5%), Wind (3.9%), Biomass (7.3%) and Solar (2.1%) make up the renewable energy sources in my region of New England.

https://www.epa.gov/egrid This website shows where your energy comes from and the amount of pollutants produced by power generation, broken down by regions in the U.S. I was disappointed to learn that Long Island is in the top five for emitters of CO2 equivalents with high CO2, methane, and N2O. Gas usage is 86% which is higher than anyone in the country. Hopefully wind farms being built in the Atlantic will offset this.

    Seth Krause's avatar
    Seth Krause 4/17/2022 12:02 PM
I will reduce my carbon footprint by being more mindful about the food I eat and where it comes from.

I practice carpooling to reduce my carbon footprint.

Online / virtual shopping is a big source of my virtual water use.  Reducing my shopping habits will reduce my virtual water use and save me money!

Recycling is the main way I reduce my water use.  My recycling habits save nearly 50 gallons of water per day!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
