Spend Time Outside
SDG #3 Health & Well-Being
I will replace 20 minute(s) per day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside exercising, enjoying the sunrise/sunset, gardening, journaling, or practicing gratitude for nature.
Education & Livelihood
Work-Life Balance
SDG #8 Work & Economy
During the workday, I will schedule time for daily rest during work days to practice work-life balance.

Know Your Produce
SDG #2 Zero Hunger
I will visit ewg.org to learn about and use their Clean 15 and Dirty Dozen produce lists.

REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & CommunitiesWhere does the energy in your region come from? Which energy is a renewable source?
Kevin Kelly 4/21/2022 2:15 PMIt is interesting to see the various sources of energy across the United States. Looks like the NW has less environmental impact than the rest of the country, but I was surprised we don't have more solar and wind. If you drive east, you will see lots of wind turbines everywhere. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityHow did you incorporate using an entire vegetable (skins, peels, tops, and stalks) during one of your meal preps? What's something new you're going to try that is a zero-waste meal practice?
Kevin Kelly 4/20/2022 11:09 AMHaving chickens, there are many things such as my radish greens, lettuce, or other vegetable scraps that can be fed to them rather than throw them out. They appreciate the treat and it doesn't go to waste! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWith 5-minute or less showers reducing your water footprint, what do you plan to add next to your water conservation habits?
Kevin Kelly 4/20/2022 11:06 AMI will be moving soon and one thing I want to do as soon as possible is put in a drip water system for my garden space to ensure my watering is effective and reduced versus a larger-scale sprinkler. I am also interested in ways to reduce the one-acre of grass to prevent watering and chemical use by replacing with more sustainable options. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat is one way you will reduce your water use? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your water use?
Kevin Kelly 4/15/2022 8:35 AMI installed a drip water system to ensure just the plants get water versus the sidewalk, weeds, and gravel.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & LivelihoodWhat place in your region are you most excited to visit during your staycation?
Kevin Kelly 4/11/2022 8:27 AMI will be moving in about 3 weeks and I am excited to explore the new neighborhood including walks in the (now closed) golf course and nearby trails. I am excited to build a new chicken coop and eventually a greenhouse at the new place to grow more of my own food without pesticide use. Staycation will be a productive at-home time for me! -
Kevin Kelly 4/07/2022 8:59 AMLooking into solar options for my next home. Anyone have experience with any Vancouver-area installers? -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & CommunitiesWhat was it like to create a readiness plan? Did you find other resources you could share?
Kevin Kelly 4/05/2022 8:30 AMOne of our previous PeaceHealth caregivers started a emergency preparedness company and I plan to check in with him. Jerry Parkman. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat surprised you about the two produce lists? How will you use these lists for your grocery shopping? Have you used these lists before?
Kevin Kelly 4/05/2022 8:24 AMHard to see some of your favorites on the bad list! As I am getting closer to planting my garden this year, I will use this opportunity to plant my own items from organic seeds and freeze ahead for the off-season.-
Brian Nelson (SSC) 4/05/2022 8:28 AMIt just means you should be a bit more discerning about your source - no need to give them up! :)

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?
Kevin Kelly 4/05/2022 8:18 AMToo much focus on technology and not enough interpersonal activity causes you to lose touch with humanity. Getting back to in-person activity is important to feel connected. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & LivelihoodHow does practicing a work-life balance create a more sustainable life for you? How might it contribute to sustainability more broadly?
Kevin Kelly 4/05/2022 8:16 AMRenewing and refreshing your mind and body during the workday helps keep you fresh and ready for the next challenge.
