Deborah Jordan 4/30/2022 6:16 AMToday is the last day. Everyday can be an ecochallenge going forward. I appreciate the resources offered, the encouragement, the collective action. I'd like to figure out how to localize this in my neighborhood. We have a monthly newsletter and a listserve so I will start there. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityHow is food equity and access linked to a sustainable future?
Deborah Jordan 4/30/2022 6:03 AMWe can't have a sustainable future for some. We're all interconnected; we all impact climate catastrophe and biodiversity loss and each other. The "haves" consume more and emit more than the "have nots." There will be endless conflict and migration unless everyone has food access and general security. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhy is it important to honor native and indigenous peoples and cultures? What have you learned that is important to you? If you identify with or are a member of an indigenous group, how does your community practice sustainability?
Deborah Jordan 4/26/2022 5:51 AMGreat resources. Native people traditionally have a strong connection with and understanding of Mother Earth, that we are all part of this family. It's important to understand how much history was whitewashed, industrialized society dominated, and how much was lost. From that understanding, there can be hope for restorative justice and collaboration going forward. -
Deborah Jordan 4/24/2022 5:49 PMIt's always good to join with others -spending the day at the Earth Day event at Summit Park and conversing with lots of people about environmental issues including rights of nature. -

Deborah Jordan 4/20/2022 5:24 AMToday our 15th annual local food guide is released! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & CommunitiesWould you consider using an induction cooking surface? If you have used one before, what do you like about induction cooking?
Deborah Jordan 4/20/2022 5:21 AMWe just switched to an electric stove due to the problems with off-gassing and gas stoves. I like it even after using gas stoves for years. We considered convection but we had to upgrade our electric system for our new electric stove so we had spent enough money already. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat watershed do you live in presently? What is something interesting or unique about your watershed?
Deborah Jordan 4/16/2022 6:00 AMI am with Citizens for Rights of the Ohio River Watershed so have studied some on this topic (not an expert!). I live in the Bold Face Creek of the Mill Creek watershed. This is not unique unfortunately: From looking at the data, our watershed is impaired, and even though we have good tap water quality, EWG notes that there are many chemicals that are legally permissible but still unsafe. We do use a countertop filter for our kitchen water. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat surprised you about the two produce lists? How will you use these lists for your grocery shopping? Have you used these lists before?
Deborah Jordan 4/16/2022 5:35 AMI was surprised sweet corn was on the clean 15 list since I thought much was GMO which was to make it so glyphosate spray wouldn't bother the corn. Now I need to research. Our Kroger's in E. Price Hill stopped carrying most organic product :-( so I knew avocado and pineapple were on the clean 15 list so can buy it there, even though we usually choose organic foods for Earth's sake. Unfortunately there is shallow organics which is corporate greenwashing so knowing the producers (know your farmer) is best. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityHow have you reduced your purchasing habits and what would you like to do next to reduce your consumption habits?
Deborah Jordan 4/12/2022 11:16 AMThere were some very informative background articles about how our US economy is based on consumption while consumption and the resulting waste is a problem for the planet. It's especially a problem because the more affluent people are, the more they tend to buy, buy, buy. I tend to shop at thrift stores for non-perishables and am trying to be more careful of our food use (although we compost). I have been guilty lately of buying somethings online, like shoes. Wouldn't it be interesting to make the pledge not to buy any non-perishables online? I do hope corporations can take more charge of what they produce and be responsible for repairing and recycling.
