    Meghan Jones 4/30/2022 2:49 PM
If we can get equitable access to healthy food, we can reduce the need for lots of cheap, processed food that is produced using harmful agricultural practices and results in health issues that also have harmful environmental impacts.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health & Equity
What was a linking factor across this group of SDGs?

    Meghan Jones's avatar
    Meghan Jones 4/30/2022 2:48 PM
The health of children linked all these SDGs, since they are a vulnerable population with little agency and the most at stake in our future.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION

What ecological or xeriscape landscaping practices do you have? How has your landscape changed from these practices?

    Meghan Jones 4/30/2022 2:43 PM
We use a push mower, remove invasive species, leave the leaves in some areas in the fall, and avoid using pesticides and fertilizers. I haven't noticed many changes. I still need to get some mulch but that did not get checked off the list this month!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Economy & Communities
Where does the energy in your region come from? Which energy is a renewable source?

    Meghan Jones's avatar
    Meghan Jones 4/30/2022 2:41 PM
Yikes, lots of coal in the Midwest! I believe our local power is from wind energy, but we recently had some changes and I have been unable to verify.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Climate & Ecosystems
Why is it important to take care of pollinators? Do you have a favorite pollinator?

    Meghan Jones's avatar
    Meghan Jones 4/30/2022 2:26 PM
I learned that one in three bites of food that humans eat each day is the result of pollinators’ interactions with plants! My favorite is the bumblebee. Did you know they sometimes fall asleep on flowers? It's so cute!

The COVID-19 pandemic was a linking factor. COVID-19 exacerbated issues of poverty and hunger, and water access is essential to overcoming the setbacks imposed by the pandemic.
