In my opinion, it helps anyone to have a constructive conversation by listening carefully to the other person, being mindful in the moment and showing empathy & compassion.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat is easy for you to do when having a constructive conversation and what is challenging? What tips do you have for having a constructive conversation?
Saritha Jagannathan 4/30/2022 1:42 PMIt is easy for me to express my ideas when having constructive conversation. The challenge for me is to provide negative feedback.
In my opinion, it helps anyone to have a constructive conversation by listening carefully to the other person, being mindful in the moment and showing empathy & compassion. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?
Saritha Jagannathan 4/30/2022 1:37 PMIn my opinion, the culture of spending most of its time inside and on screens can cause dangerous implications like obesity, lack of connectedness with "real" human beings, lack of empathy and compassion, increased stress levels and thereby health issues. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat was it like to practice mindfulness? If this is a practice for you already, what was something new you understood in practicing during Earth Month?
Saritha Jagannathan 4/30/2022 1:32 PMPracticing mindfulness throughout this one month has learnt me the difference between "focusing" vs "refocusing". As I have heard Justin, the mindfulness coach say "Focusing" is a choice whereas "Refocusing" is a skill.
We all choose to focus on something and tend to get distracted but practicing the mindfulness teaches us the skill of "refocusing", conditioning our thoughts to come back to the subject.

REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & LivelihoodHow does practicing a work-life balance create a more sustainable life for you? How might it contribute to sustainability more broadly?
Saritha Jagannathan 4/30/2022 1:28 PMPracticing work-life balance helps me in prioritizing the tasks better, in achieving less stressful life and enjoying the present moment.
In my opinion, practicing the work-life balance by everyone contributes greatly to the sustainability because the world seem to move at a really faster pace and people don't really seem to enjoy the present moment. Always trying to chase more, want more and run behind things without really thinking whether they "need" it or "want" it. Taking a break , pausing and rethinking about priorities can help everyone greatly.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityHow is food equity and access linked to a sustainable future?
Saritha Jagannathan 4/26/2022 8:48 AMFood equity and access addresses the root causes of the food apartheid, redistribute power, and is guided by people with lived experience in food apartheids. Food security is more than proximity to a grocery store; it should be about food sovereignty—the right of all people to have a say in how their food is grown and the right to fresh, affordable, and culturally appropriate food.
By giving people right to have a say in how their food is grown and giving all the people the access to fresh, affordable food provides a sustainable future. -

Saritha Jagannathan 4/22/2022 8:04 PMI joined this challenge to learn the ways I can contribute to save Mother Earth. I am liking every bit of the learning through this process -
Saritha Jagannathan 4/22/2022 7:25 AMHappy Earth Day to everyone. I am sure all our actions we are doing as part this challenge make Earth a little more better place for future generations. Let us keep going ! -
Saritha Jagannathan 4/20/2022 4:16 PMIt is yet more interesting to learn that more water is needed to grow coffee than tea. cup of coffee (8 fluid ounces) requires 37 gallons of virtual water to produce vs cup of black tea needs only 9 gallons of virtual water to grow!
-
Sarah Braden 4/22/2022 10:09 AMTea is also easier to grow. I have a friend in Arizona who is creating her own tea garden (with a few varieties of tea plants).
