REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat is one way you will reduce your water use? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your water use?
Juan Izar Tenorio 4/15/2022 4:07 PMI try to be very conscious of my individual water use, but it was very eye opening to see the incredible difference in scale between direct water use and what the calculator calls "virtual", which is the indirect water use linked to our consumption of goods and services. To me this just emphasizes the importance of driving system change throughout our societies, because our environmental footprint as a whole can only be as good as allowed by the systems that provide all the services we use through our daily lives. That is what motivates my involvement and passion for Sustainability beyond what I can affect in my own personal life. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & EcosystemsWhat is one way you will reduce your carbon foorprint? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your carbon footprint?
Juan Izar Tenorio 4/06/2022 11:33 AMFrom the footprint calculator, it seems my biggest reductions of emissions in the last few years have come from reducing meat consumption (especially beef), opting for high-quality, long-lasting devices, clothes, etc. that I keep for longer, and getting very efficient appliances like an induction stove and a heat-pump clothes drier.
My current biggest source of emissions is transportation, which I will reduce by getting an electric car as soon as I am able to have a place to charge it at home or at work. Flying less is a little more challenging because it's my only option to see family periodically. Hopefully high-speed trains become a reality in the future! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & CommunitiesWhat one thing will you do right away to reduce your waste? What is the second thing you will do?
Juan Izar Tenorio 4/05/2022 2:36 PMBuying in bulk, using cloth produce bags and opting for compostable options has greatly helped me reduce my waste-

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat was it like to practice mindfulness? If this is a practice for you already, what was something new you understood in practicing during Earth Month?
Juan Izar Tenorio 4/04/2022 7:48 AMI try to make it a morning practice after waking up to start the day off well. Mindfulness helps see hidden biases and choose actions more carefully. There could have a sizeable effect on how the world conducts their activities and their effects on the environment and others if people in position of influence practiced mindfulness. -
Juan Izar Tenorio 4/01/2022 7:42 AMI hope everyone is enthusiastic about the first day of this Earth Month Ecochallenge and are ready to try some new actions this month. As global emissions continue to tick up and other objectives of the UN 2030 Agenda are at risk , I am motivated to keep doing the best I can and I hope you all are too.
Don't forget to look at the Resources link on the top to learn more about how to engage with the platform if you are unsure where to start, or just want to make full use of everything available. Here's the link: https://earthmonth.ecochallenge.org/about/resources?layout=dashboard
If you are in Emerson Twin Cities, there is a post with some quick resources on Rosewire too.
Good luck to everyone with your actions!-
Laura Chemler 4/01/2022 12:03 PMFYI, the team rankings are determined by the average points per team member. You don't have to be the largest team to have a high team ranking! Checking in every day gets you 25 points per day! I'm excited to see which Twin Cities' facility wins the competition at the end of the month. Shakopee may be the largest team, but Chanhassen is currently winning!

There should be an RTC-employee e-mail going out soon from leadership, but please spread the word with your immediate teams to increase participation and engagement if you are able to
