REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat are some of the barriers that exist to women and girl's equitable participation or representation in your community? Do you experience these barriers?
Maggie Hwang 4/12/2022 7:27 AMDiscrimination by type of job/sector, social and cultural factors, and safe and accessible infrastructure. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat surprised you about the two produce lists? How will you use these lists for your grocery shopping? Have you used these lists before?
Maggie Hwang 4/12/2022 7:24 AMI didn't realize that so many greens and reds are in the dirty dozen list especially since I buy a lot of items from that list rather than the clean fifteen. Going forward, I will keep in mind these items and buy less to reduce my exposure to toxic pesticides. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & EcosystemsWhat is one way you will reduce your carbon foorprint? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your carbon footprint?
Maggie Hwang 4/12/2022 7:20 AMReusable water bottles, taking shorter showers, turning off lights when not in use, thrifting, and freezing food. Start in baby steps and do one thing at a time until you get used to it. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat is one way you will reduce your water use? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your water use?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?
Maggie Hwang 4/06/2022 9:58 AMPoor physical health (lack of exercise, vitamin D), negative impact from social media (never see the reality of things), and damaged eye sight! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & EcosystemsWhat plastic or single-use items do you regularly use? What did you substitute or could be substituted?
Maggie Hwang 4/05/2022 6:49 AMI regularly use plastic utensils when I get takeout - I can easily substitute that by getting a set of reusable utensils! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & CommunitiesHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?
Maggie Hwang 4/04/2022 11:47 AMLearn to style from what you already have rather than relying on popular trends! Try out capsule wardrobe and see how many outfits you can think of from a limited selection of clothing. You can also express your personality and creativity through thrifting and upcycling. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat was it like to practice mindfulness? If this is a practice for you already, what was something new you understood in practicing during Earth Month?
Maggie Hwang 4/04/2022 10:23 AMI did a 5 minute yoga break that I found on YouTube - it felt nice/relaxing after sitting around all morning. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & LivelihoodHow does practicing a work-life balance create a more sustainable life for you? How might it contribute to sustainability more broadly?
Maggie Hwang 4/01/2022 2:01 PMMaintaining a healthy work-life balance is very important. We need to be able to recognize when to set boundaries in order to protect our well-being and health. I like to take 5-10 walks or yoga breaks throughout the day and always stay hydrated. If we don't take care of ourselves, we will feel burnt out and unhappy.
