The statistics around hunger in the world are unsettling. This is leading me to think more about ways to help in my own local  and larger communities.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

What is one way you will reduce your water use? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your water use?

I was surprised that my indoor water footprint is low but my virtual water footprint is high. So in order to reduce my water use I have to address this by eating less meat and shopping less.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

What was it like to mend your clothing? If you are skilled at mending, what tips do you have for others?

Since my children always put holes in the knees of their pants, I got a bunch of patches to fix them easily. Mended one pair so far an it was very easy. Since it's just the knees that need to be fixed, by fixing them they don't need to be replaced and it cuts down on our waste.

One way I will reduce my carbon footprint is by eating more plant based meals. I need to look into ways to make this possible for our family.

It was interesting to learn about the difference between using the term "food desert" and "food apartheid". The article in the resources included links for a different area. It was easy to find more local organizations by searching for "food sovereignty organizations in NY".

Looking at SDGs #3, 5, 10, & 16, more than the others I’ve learned about so far, drove home the interconnectedness of the whole world as one global community. I think it was because of the statistics related to children.

One link between SDGs #4, 8, 11, and 17 seems to be the major impact on the achievement of these goals. Even though progress was slow or had slowed before the pandemic, Covid-19 has made everything much worse.

One link between SDGs #13, 14, & 15 seems to be the urgent need for action. Despite this, the laws and actions that have been taken seem like just a drop in the bucket. More needs to be done.
