What was it like to create a readiness plan? Did you find other resources you could share?

Creating a readiness plan was something I’ve always wanted to do so this was a good opportunity to learn the basics of it. I learned how to turn off gas, water, and electric in my home, got a fire extinguisher and learned about the disaster alerts in my area. I’d also like to create a readiness pack in case of an evacuation emergency if something like the fires of 2020 happened again and in my area.

When learning about cleaning products, I found out that there is no federal regulation on household chemicals. Ingredients and products don’t have to meet any sort of safety standard.. this is frightening to me because I also learned that chemicals within home cleaning products have been linked to cancer, neurotoxicity, and asthma. Words to look out for on your products are anything with “fragrance,” perrchloroethylene, quats, triclosan, amonia & chlorine. I’ve already switched out a bunch of my products to essential oil-based & non-fragrant cleaners!

My goals are going really good! It feels good to do small things that can make a big difference if we’re all practicing them.

I’m a bartender at Burmese restaurant in downtown & we have tons of vegan options so I’ve been getting something vegan for lunch everyday. My favorite is tofu khao soi or coconut noodle soup. It’s sooo good. Working somewhere that offers lots of vegan options makes it easier to eat less meat
