    Health & Equity
How have you reduced your purchasing habits and what would you like to do next to reduce your consumption habits?

One way to reduce my consumption is to develop the habit of gratitude for what I already have and understand that all my needs are always truly met.  I will write a gratitude list every morning when possible.

Why is art an important way for you to express sustainability values?

Art is an important way to express because it permits all to express in whatever way they want through multiple media types.  We all express in different ways...and our values are different.  It opens our hearts and enables us to see what others experience in their lives.  It gives all opportunities for expression.

    Dear Mother Earth
I honor and thank you for your willingness to support us because without you there would be no life
For surrounding us with your beauty and abundance you give us so much
May we always learn from your patience, generosity, and unending forgiveness
May we accept as a sacred trust the obligation to care for you
And may we always honor your spirit and be embraced by your loving arms

What was a linking factor across this group of SDGs?

    Judy Gribble 4/18/2022 12:16 PM
The linking factor across this group of SDGs is the 2015 Millennium Development Goals and educating communities what the goals are.  The core issue is providing clean water and proper sanitation in order to promote healthy living and agriculture.  Education of all factors surrounding these issues and taking action is key.

What is one way you will reduce your water use? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your water use?

This year I will reduce my water usage by saving my dirty dishes during the day and wash at the end of the day.  My already reduced water use includes going to the spring to get my drinking/cooking water.  This is helpful because I use natural filtered water.  No electricity or chemicals are needed to filter the water.  The not so natural part is I have to drive to get the water.

How does practicing a work-life balance create a more sustainable life for you? How might it contribute to sustainability more broadly?

Sometimes I find that I make excuses to not take a break when working because of...deadlines...too cold outside...etc. and when reflecting on those thoughts at days end I find they make no sense.  AND I feel deprived.
I have a new habit...notice my excuses when they happen and take action to get up and get on out!  I feel much better at the end of the day!

I am a hiker and supporter of the ecosystems that I walk through.  Nature's beauty inspires me to be outdoors more and to take actions that help increase sustainability at home and in my community.

    These statistics are amazing!
Did you know that Americans produce 25 percent more waste than usual between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day, sending an additional one million tons a week to landfills.  Over two billion Christmas cards are mailed every year, with enough paper to fill a football field 10 stories high. More than 38,000 miles of ribbon are thrown away and usually end up in landfills. Over the holidays, Americans discard half their total yearly paper waste, mostly holiday wrapping and decorations—about nine billion tons. And each person wastes almost 100 pounds of food.  Yikes!!!

Have you heard of the term "Green washing"?  They are terms such as environmentally friendly, ecosafe, and green.  These terms can be misleading.  Look for ecolabels such as, Energy Star, Water Sense, Safe Choice, and Smartway.  These labels were developed by the EPA.  Also, if you are looking to buy something for yourself or home, ask yourself the following "green" questions:
    • Can you repair something you already own?
    • Do you really need the product?
    • Can you buy reusable instead of disposable products?
    • Can you buy a service or rent a product when you need it rather than buying the product?
    • Can you buy a used product?
Some of my learning for today!  Go TEAM!  Keep on keepin' on...so we can keep our Earth green and us alive!
