Climate & Ecosystems

Support Local Pollinators

SDG #15 Life On Land

At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will spend 30 minutes researching which plants support local pollinators and plant some in my area.

Ecological & Xeriscape Gardening

SDG #14 & 15

I will do one or more of the following actions in my yard, or volunteer in my community: plant indigenous plants, landscape with water-efficient plants, add mulching, replace a lawn, and/or use eco-friendly fertilizers.

    Climate & Ecosystems
How can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place? Was there a new place in your region that was exciting to learn about and visit?

Yesterday we hosted our Faith Communities Go Green booth at CincInnati Earthdday event.  A quote from Ariel who volunteered at the booth: "Visitors signed 96 postcards to their reps, and some people took postcards to share with their congregations.  It was fascinating - the visitors are all concerned about environmental issues and hardly anyone was sure who represented them. The lookup tool on the Ohio House website proved very valuable, as was the chance to discuss the legislative environment with constituents. Tabling at events works well for us!

Why is it important to take care of pollinators? Do you have a favorite pollinator?

Love butterflies and Hummingbirds.  The Hummingbirds love our Mimosa Tree. The bright pink flowers last most of the summer.   A piece of trivia - Costa Rica now forbids humming bird feeders because the humming birds seem to prefer the feeders over pollinating flowering plants.
