REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & LivelihoodWhat was the most fun or joyful way you have seen others share their positive sustainability actions and habits?
Mari-Lynn Flaig 4/22/2022 7:04 AMWhat was the most fun or joyful way you have seen others share their positive sustainability actions and habits? I have a neighbor that is elderly, she can't get around as much as she used to. I noticed that she was having issues with getting her cans to the curb on trash day, so I am now helping her with her cans, which graduated to helping her do some recycling of glass, plastic and newspapers. We both look forward to seeing each other and talking about different things. I have a feeling she's going to help me learn how to be a better gardener in the process. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & LivelihoodWhat was something you learned from your friends during Earth Month?
Mari-Lynn Flaig 4/22/2022 7:01 AMWe had a debate over what straw was better to use, paper, plastic or reusable. Plastic is definitely agreeably the worst to use. Paper still adds to the waste of the environment. Reusable metal has the issue of cleaning products still need to be used. After careful review, we all opted to just not use any straw going forward. As far as fast food goes, we plan to just order the sandwich without the drink and fries. It's healthier that way. -
Mari-Lynn Flaig 4/13/2022 5:14 AMWith growth, you sometimes need to step outside your level of comfort to do something new. This event is something I have done before, but every time I participate, I learn something new and precious about my team mates, my company and myself. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & LivelihoodWhat do you enjoy about supporting others who are learning?
Mari-Lynn Flaig 4/13/2022 5:13 AMIt makes me feel good to watch others as the lightbulb goes off and they indicate a concept they may not have thought of before. I know that if I can teach a concept and for someone else to understand it, it reinforces what I've learned as well. It's a very sharing experience, that sometimes comes with challenges, but very worth the time. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & LivelihoodWhat was it like to actively listen to someone? How did both people and the conversation benefit from active listening?
Mari-Lynn Flaig 4/11/2022 4:32 AMI keep thinking the more I listen to others, the more I learn about myself. WE are more like than I originally thought, even if we are different. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & CommunitiesWhat was it like to mend your clothing? If you are skilled at mending, what tips do you have for others?
Mari-Lynn Flaig 4/07/2022 7:15 AMI have four parrots, and one of them has developed a seizure disorder. There is no cure for this, and there is no way I will put my buddy Lobster-Copter down. The biggest issue is his cage. He's a Nanday Conure and he is a medium sized bird. The seizures will happen any time, but mostly at night. If he falls off his perch, he could potentially break a wing or his neck. So, I designed and created a bird catch that is made of elastic and fuzzy fabric, that can be washed, hooks to the four corners of the cage and if he falls he lands in a soft bed, instead of the hard floor. The first one was made a few months back. I just made version #2 and version #3 last night, so now we have some spares come laundry day. -
Mari-Lynn Flaig 4/04/2022 12:29 PMMy son and I were sharing a car for about two years, but his job has changed, so we had to get another vehicle. I committed to buying a gas / electric hybrid, slightly nervous about the cost. I found two models of gas / electric hybrids both by Toyota. The base model Corolla is $25,365. It costs about $5,000 less than the Camry hybrid model, and both get 50-51mpg. With the shortages and availability limited and was in need of a car right away, they had a gas / electric Prius on the lot, which I purchased. It was more. All models have a battery that comes with a 10 year / 150,000 mile warranty, and so far the ride in the car has been the smoothest. The electronic system gives you tips on how to drive eco better, I feel like a video game player that wins every time I drive home. Just thought you should know, in case you were thinking of converting. -
