REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat was a linking factor across this group of SDGs?
Jessica Delgado 4/25/2022 12:48 PMI noticed that across the group of SDGs there is a rise or increase - undernourished people has risen, extreme poverty has risen (impact of covid) and, 2.3 billion live in water stressed countries. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & CommunitiesWhat was a linking factor across this group of SDGs?
Jessica Delgado 4/25/2022 12:42 PMThis group of SDGs really made me think! #7 is directly linked to work my friends and I have done through Habitat for Humanity. We worked in Guatemala to build efficient and safe wood burning stoves for families who had previously been cooking with fire, indoors, without proper ventilation. This led to high numbers of eye infections and lung disease/cancer. #12 left me feeling guilty about my electronic waste - disposing of things responsibly is so critical. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & EcosystemsWhat was a linking factor across this group of SDGs?
Jessica Delgado 4/22/2022 12:43 PMThey all seemed action oriented - with devastating outcomes if we don't work to conserve life below water, make climate adaptation plans, and protect and restore our land. It felt positive to read about the progress made in each area....but there's A LOT more to do! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat is one way you will reduce your water use? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your water use?
Jessica Delgado 4/22/2022 8:55 AMI'm terrible at wasting water when I wash dishes. I use a lot of soap and a lot of water. Over spring break, while I was in Chile, I realized that I can do better after seeing my 80 year old aunt preserving water (there's a water shortage in Chile) in her dish washing routine.
I don't wash my hair every day - that really helps keep showers short! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhy is it important to honor native and indigenous peoples and cultures? What have you learned that is important to you? If you identify with or are a member of an indigenous group, how does your community practice sustainability?
Jessica Delgado 4/20/2022 4:15 PMI have been wanting to learn more about cultural appropriation and its fine balance with cultural appreciation. I now have a few sites to follow and some Native-owned businesses to check out. I also learned about the Indian Arts and Crafts Act of 1990

REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat surprised you about the two produce lists? How will you use these lists for your grocery shopping? Have you used these lists before?
Jessica Delgado 4/13/2022 5:06 AMI learned about clean and dirty foods - and unfortunately eat many of the dirty ones (spinach, strawberries) often, yikes. You can get the free guide here https://www.ewg.org/foodnews/dirty-dozen.php -
Jessica Delgado 4/08/2022 4:39 AMA few of the actions I chose are linked to having just returned from spring break - and visiting my family in Chile. The country has had privatized water for over 40 years put in place during the dictatorship. I saw how my aunt and uncle (who are in their 70s) made efforts to conserve water - including turning the faucet off while washing dishes. The had a two rinse technique, using a basin. The second rinse, which had little soap residue left, they dumped into a large bucket which they keep in their kitchen. They use this water for the garden and all the plants they enjoy.
I also spent a lot of the break practicing mindfulness. I brought 2 puzzles with me! So I added a mindfulness action to continue the practice now that I'm back. I find it so meditative and helpful.
Finally, whenever we travel to Chile, we bring clothes we no longer use to donate. This trip, my mom brought an Eddie Bauer fleece that had been mine while I was in high school. It was a large size because that was my style in the early 90s styles ;+). My cousin's boyfriend was SO happy to receive it. He proudly wore it at dinner, even though it was summer time, haha. It left me thinking so much about sustainability and clothing. I've been learning a lot from that action step! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat was it like to practice mindfulness? If this is a practice for you already, what was something new you understood in practicing during Earth Month?
Jessica Delgado 4/01/2022 4:29 PMI'm working on a puzzle - spending a few minutes on it every day feels meditative and relaxing-

REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWith 5-minute or less showers reducing your water footprint, what do you plan to add next to your water conservation habits?
