I have been able to complete my challenges.  It does take effort and work but it has created awareness which is what is important.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

What was it like to practice mindfulness? If this is a practice for you already, what was something new you understood in practicing during Earth Month?

It is hard to shut my brain off.  It takes practice. I am getting better about not feeling guilty for practicing mindfulness.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

Not enjoying and appreciating nature and the lack of communicating
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

How can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place? Was there a new place in your region that was exciting to learn about and visit?

This area around Austin has so many parks to explore.  So much nicer and healthier than watching TV.

Watershed Protection protects lives, property and the environment of our community by reducing the impact of flood, erosion and water pollution.

Austin is particularly vulnerable to these problems due to our torrential downpours and rocky landscape. We have a multi-tiered approach including a wide variety of ongoing programs such as Grow Green and the Lady Bird Lake Cleanup Crew; construction projects such as stormwater ponds and streambank restorations; and regulations to help prevent future problems. We are mostly funded by the drainage charge on utility bills.

Nutria//I saw some of these are my last trip to Oregon

    Myocastor Coypus
In Oregon, the nutria is considered an invasive species.

The nutria is a large rat-like semiaquatic rodent. The species has a hunched body; a round, nearly hairless tail; a valvular mouth and nose; and pentadactyl feet with naked soles. The toes of the hind feet, except for the hallux, are included in a web. As an adaption to the aquatic environment, the eyes, nostrils, and small ears are set high on the sides. The pelage consists of long, course guard hairs and soft, dense underfur. Overall, the color usually ranges from dark brown to yellow-brown. The muzzle is frosted with white hairs. The skull of the nutria is heavy and somewhat angular, like that of the porcupine.

What surprised you about the two produce lists? How will you use these lists for your grocery shopping? Have you used these lists before?

NOTE: A small amount of sweet corn, papaya and summer squash sold in the United States is produced from genetically modified seeds. Buy organic varieties of these crops if you want to avoid genetically modified produce.
