REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & LivelihoodAfter learning more about investing, how can you increase positive impacts and decrease negative impacts?
Ioana Cismasu 4/21/2022 5:41 AMBy supporting investments in companies that behave ethically and have a clear plan to make a positive social and environmental impact. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityDo you have any tips for others on finding locations that accept products for safe disposal?
Ioana Cismasu 4/21/2022 5:37 AMI noticed some Profi stores provide a recycling box for batteries in Cluj. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityHow is food equity and access linked to a sustainable future?
Ioana Cismasu 4/21/2022 5:35 AMA lack of access to proper nutrition via food deserts, for example, means a community is not living sustainably as issues such as malnutrition can stunt social and economic development. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhy is equity for gender diverse individuals important for a just and sustainable society?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat are some of the barriers that exist to women and girl's equitable participation or representation in your community? Do you experience these barriers?
Ioana Cismasu 4/21/2022 5:25 AMOne of the main barriers for women in the professional sphere is a different set of expectations during performance reviews. According to research, measurable business performance objectives are seen as less important for women than for men, whereas women's overall "likeability" is central to professional performance evaluations. This can lead to heavily biased performance reviews, which in turn lead to inequitable financial compensation and unequal promotion opportunities. The evaluation of "likeability" is inherently gendered because expectations of likeability differ per gender. According to research, men are "likeable" in the workplace when they are direct, competitive and confident, whereas women who display the same qualities tend to be seen as "too bossy" or "too competitive" unless they also display traditional markers of femininity, such as a soft or high-pitched voice, regular placating language (like apologizing often when it is not necessary) and refusing to take credit when it is due.
That said, I have not experienced this in my job at Emerson at all, so I am very optimistic about this workplace! -
