REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityHow did you incorporate using an entire vegetable (skins, peels, tops, and stalks) during one of your meal preps? What's something new you're going to try that is a zero-waste meal practice?
Gary Cheung 4/29/2022 10:08 AMWe make hot pots (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hot_pot) so it is easy to put the entire vegetable inside the soup to cook the food, and then eat the veggies (usually very melted) at the end. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & CommunitiesWould you consider using an induction cooking surface? If you have used one before, what do you like about induction cooking?
Gary Cheung 4/27/2022 10:57 AMI would consider using an induction cooking surface. It seems easy enough to use, looks good/modern, and environmental friendly. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & EcosystemsWhat is one invasive species in your region and how does it impact your region's ecosystem?
Gary Cheung 4/22/2022 9:02 AMAedes mosquitoes are not native to my region and are known to carry diseases like yellow fever (they are sometimes known as Yellow Fever mosquitos), dengue fever, chokingunya and zika virus. Not sure if they have a big impact on the region's ecosystem, but they bite people.

REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & EcosystemsWhat is one way you will reduce your carbon foorprint? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your carbon footprint?
Gary Cheung 4/21/2022 9:24 AMRecently when I travel, I start to use more public transportation if they are available. Although they are usually slower to get to my destinations, they are much cheaper than, say, uber, and I don't have to drive or ride in an extra vehicle.
I tend not to use the air conditioner unless it is unbearably hot in the summer, and even when I use it, I turn it to a reasonably high temperature. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat was the tastiest meatless or vegan meal you ever had or had recently? Did you make it? Can you share a recipe?
Gary Cheung 4/20/2022 9:55 AMGarlic noodles are delicious, cheap, and easy to make! It is not meatless and not vegan. I followed this recipe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wK9OHVxB_Z8 -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & LivelihoodWhat place in your region are you most excited to visit during your staycation?
Gary Cheung 4/15/2022 8:28 AMI will be attending a Cherry Blossom festival in West Covina, a city that is an hour drive away from where I live. I am excited to see the pink flowers! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & LivelihoodWhat do you enjoy about supporting others who are learning?
Gary Cheung 4/15/2022 8:27 AMI am part of a personal Slack channel with more than 40 members who want to learn about technology/coding. As a more experienced programmer, I share my knowledge and experience to help others, and create systems to keep people accountable. It is a great feeling to see others progressing and being proud of their own work. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat was it like to practice mindfulness? If this is a practice for you already, what was something new you understood in practicing during Earth Month?
Gary Cheung 4/15/2022 8:21 AMI follow a mini version of the "Miracle Morning" routine, which has a meditation component where I sit or stand, and let my body wake up in the early morning. I discovered this routine because 2 months ago, I started getting into a habit of reading and came across the "Miracle Morning" book from Hal Elrod, and have been doing it for about 2 months and it feels great! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & LivelihoodHow does practicing a work-life balance create a more sustainable life for you? How might it contribute to sustainability more broadly?
Gary Cheung 4/15/2022 8:18 AMI started walking during some of the all-hands meetings. This allows me to get some light exercises on, while getting more focused on the meeting content, since I am not staring at the screen which tends to distract me from listening to meetings. -
Gary Cheung 4/13/2022 10:10 AMI have been making overnight oatmeals for breakfast. Meatless (maybe vegan too?), easy and quick to prepare, healthy, does not need to heat it up (thus saving energy), and delicious with berries + granola!
