  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Basic Needs & Security
What is one way you will reduce your water use? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your water use?

The virtual water usage really surprised me - especially the impact of pet food. We have low flow toilets and low flow shower heads, but not low flow sinks so that's an opportunity for improvement in our home. Same goes for how many dishes I do by hand and then I put them in the dishwasher - there's an opportunity there to reduce how much redundant water I'm using. Luckily my sustainability habits around my diet and recycling help balance out my water footprint, making it lower than the national average.

Eden Prairie is going to have another trash cleanup day on Thursday! The weather looks nice, but still dress appropriately and meet at noon by the employee entrance. Chris is leading the event again.

Thanks, Chris, for organizing a great event at Emerson Twin Cities - Eden Prairie! I'm impressed (and shocked) with how much garbage we picked up on our Earth Week Garbage Pickup Day.

If there's interest and someone willing to lead the events, then I think yes! I'll make sure the Education subteam of the Green Team knows that there's a lot of interest here, and what the best way to organize: either as a full Green Team or let each facility run as frequently as they want.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health & Equity
What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?

    Laura Chemler's avatar
    Laura Chemler 4/14/2022 8:46 AM
I've always valued taking walks outside, but making it a daily goal made me realize how frequently other things (like work) would come up and be prioritized as more important. Now I'm ensuring my outside time still happens every day, even if it's not as long as I would like.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Basic Needs & Security
With 5-minute or less showers reducing your water footprint, what do you plan to add next to your water conservation habits?

    Laura Chemler's avatar
    Laura Chemler 4/14/2022 8:44 AM
I'm realizing how much water is wasted waiting for the shower to heat up, or for hot water to come to the sinks. The plumbing in my home isn't very efficient, but I'm learning there are different ways to ensure hot water is more readily available during peak times of use. This means I don't have to redo my house plumbing to make it more efficient!

Check out the points page! The more difficult the action (indicated at the bottom of each action) the more points you get! You also get points for saying you already do an action. Remember, this EcoChallenge is all about changing behaviour and trying new things! Claim those points for things you're already doing and get even more points for trying something new!
