Basic Needs & Security
Take 5-Minute Or Less Showers
SDG #6 Water & Sanitation
I will save up to 6 gallons (23 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers. Tip: Use a timer to practice or count to 60 a few times.
Climate & Ecosystems

Join A Climate Action Orginization
SDG #13 Climate
I will learn about local, national and international climate action organizations that I could join and connect with one or more.
Basic Needs & Security
Calculate Your Water Footprint
SDG #6 Water & Sanitation
I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste.
Climate & Ecosystems
Ecological & Xeriscape Gardening
SDG #14 & 15
I will do one or more of the following actions in my yard, or volunteer in my community: plant indigenous plants, landscape with water-efficient plants, add mulching, replace a lawn, and/or use eco-friendly fertilizers.
Education & Livelihood
Take Action During Earth Week
I will participate in Earth Week by attending at least one of the global Emerson Earth Day Live Panel discussions during Earth Week on 19th and 20th April, listening to the special Planet in Focus podcast episode, or completing an EcoChallenge action.
Education & Livelihood
Take Emerson’s Sustainability Training
I will complete the first module of the Emerson Environmental Sustainability training program available on the Global Learning Center.

Share Your Eco Habits
SDG #11 Communities
Through my social media channels, in person, or as an Earth Month Ecochallenge feed reflection, I will share with others an environmentally friendly habit I have cultivated.

Research Impact Investing
SDG #8 Work & Economy
Using the links provided below, I will research impact investing or my current investment portfolio to determine if they align with my values.
Education & Livelihood
Plan A Staycation in Your Community
SDG #11 Communities
For an upcoming vacation, I will plan a staycation in my region.
Health & Equity
Spend Time Outside
SDG #3 Health & Well-Being

Learn About & Practice Sustainable Fashion
SDG #12 Consumption & Production
Each day, I will spend 10 minutes learning about sustainable fashion so that I can engage in this practice.

REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat is one way you will reduce your water use? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your water use?
Laura Chemler 4/27/2022 11:13 AMThe virtual water usage really surprised me - especially the impact of pet food. We have low flow toilets and low flow shower heads, but not low flow sinks so that's an opportunity for improvement in our home. Same goes for how many dishes I do by hand and then I put them in the dishwasher - there's an opportunity there to reduce how much redundant water I'm using. Luckily my sustainability habits around my diet and recycling help balance out my water footprint, making it lower than the national average. -

Laura Chemler 4/20/2022 9:31 AMEden Prairie is going to have another trash cleanup day on Thursday! The weather looks nice, but still dress appropriately and meet at noon by the employee entrance. Chris is leading the event again. -
Laura Chemler 4/19/2022 1:50 PMEveryone that listened to the Leaders Panel this morning, you've completed one of your one-time Actions! Our own Twin Cities' Juan Izar Tenorio will be one of the panelists during tomorrow's Pioneers Panel!!

Laura Chemler 4/20/2022 7:22 AMIf there's interest and someone willing to lead the events, then I think yes! I'll make sure the Education subteam of the Green Team knows that there's a lot of interest here, and what the best way to organize: either as a full Green Team or let each facility run as frequently as they want. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?
Laura Chemler 4/14/2022 8:46 AMI've always valued taking walks outside, but making it a daily goal made me realize how frequently other things (like work) would come up and be prioritized as more important. Now I'm ensuring my outside time still happens every day, even if it's not as long as I would like. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWith 5-minute or less showers reducing your water footprint, what do you plan to add next to your water conservation habits?
Laura Chemler 4/14/2022 8:44 AMI'm realizing how much water is wasted waiting for the shower to heat up, or for hot water to come to the sinks. The plumbing in my home isn't very efficient, but I'm learning there are different ways to ensure hot water is more readily available during peak times of use. This means I don't have to redo my house plumbing to make it more efficient! -
