REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityHow did you incorporate using an entire vegetable (skins, peels, tops, and stalks) during one of your meal preps? What's something new you're going to try that is a zero-waste meal practice?
Sara Casten 4/09/2022 5:52 PMToday I made a meal of just lettuce and rinsed fruits. I didn't have to throw away anything. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & LivelihoodWhat was it like to actively listen to someone? How did both people and the conversation benefit from active listening?
Sara Casten 4/09/2022 5:50 PMActive listening is about taking the time to hear what the other person has to say, not waiting your turn to say what you thought of without allowing yourself to let that thought go and really hear the other person. It does not mean that you have to agree with what they have to say, just allow them to talk through their thoughts and listen to what they are trying to tell you. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat is easy for you to do when having a constructive conversation and what is challenging? What tips do you have for having a constructive conversation?
Sara Casten 4/09/2022 5:47 PMAlways keep the other person's feelings in mind. Although you may be telling them the truth, they may choose not to listen to you if you are communicating it to them in a way that isn't positive or constructive. Also, make sure to watch their body language and gauge what you are saying based off of how they are responding. If they are becoming upset, give them a compliment and remind them how much you appreciate them. If they are thinking mindfully, let them know that you understand where they are coming from and offer potential solutions you both can discuss. And, above all, make sure that you listen to what they have to say (both verbally and nonverbally). If who you are talking with doesn't think you are a good listener, they won't think you are credible and will disregard what you have said after you leave.
