REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat surprised you about the two produce lists? How will you use these lists for your grocery shopping? Have you used these lists before?
Madison Beam 4/20/2022 10:09 AMI was surprised to see corn on the clean 15 list as since this is such a huge crop in the US, I figured it would also carry a high pesticide burden. I will use these lists to prioritize which fruits or vegetables are worth spending a bit more to purchase organic and I have used these lists before for some items that were included in previous year's lists. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & EcosystemsWhat is one invasive species in your region and how does it impact your region's ecosystem?
Madison Beam 4/20/2022 10:05 AMOne species I learned about is the brown marmorated stink bug which eats pretty much any crop damaging fresh produce from being consumed. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?
Madison Beam 4/20/2022 9:59 AMIncreased screen time can strain personal and professional relationships by limiting social skills and kill productivity by ruining attention spans and also has overall impacts on physical and mental health. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & LivelihoodHow does practicing a work-life balance create a more sustainable life for you? How might it contribute to sustainability more broadly?
Madison Beam 4/20/2022 9:58 AMTaking mini breaks throughout the day to get up and move around or eat a snack give me more energy to focus throughout the day. This gives me more time and energy to prioritize sustainability even if it might take extra time or effort. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & EcosystemsWhat plastic or single-use items do you regularly use? What did you substitute or could be substituted?
Madison Beam 4/20/2022 9:55 AMAt home I use a lot of paper towels that I could replace with reusable clothes or towels. At work I often use disposable utensils out of convenience but alternatively I could bring silverware from home to use. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat was the tastiest meatless or vegan meal you ever had or had recently? Did you make it? Can you share a recipe?
Madison Beam 4/20/2022 9:54 AMI love making vegan buffalo cauliflower "wings" by roasting cauliflower in a simple batter and coating it with buffalo sauce, so good!
