REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityHow is food equity and access linked to a sustainable future?
Jennifer Bankie 4/29/2022 9:57 AMI hadn't known that much of the CAFOs in the US produce extensive air pollution and that these tend to be located in poorer areas. I attended a presentation this week that highlighted this fact. I don't think the average person is at all familiar with the link between air quality and CAFOs. This might encourage more people to become vegetarian/vegan. -
Jennifer Bankie 4/29/2022 9:54 AMI've spend a good amount of time over the past week reading up on recyclable plastics. I was trying to find places to send back polystyrene (as well as plastic pouches) and although many articles say there are facilities in the US, I couldn't find a single one that takes anything other than white foam board. Interesting to learn about what is said to be recyclable (even commonly and on recycling maps), and what actually is if you look into the facility. Makes me realize manufacturers need to make better choices about recyclability of packaging (and restaurants of their takeout containers). -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & EcosystemsCan you make it to Net Zero?
Jennifer Bankie 4/26/2022 11:00 AM"Net zero" has been coming up quite a bit in news articles lately! Glad to see and be contributing to WSP's efforts in embodied carbon reduction and Scope 3 reduction strategy. It's an evolving field that will require new technology and lots of collaboration. -
Jennifer Bankie 4/21/2022 7:58 AMGlad to hear of the progress made in our company's embodied carbon action plan just in the last few months. -
Jennifer Bankie 4/20/2022 12:31 PMWent on an 8-mile hike over the weekend exploring a state park I'd never visited. Had a nice view and avoided the rain! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & CommunitiesWhat was a linking factor across this group of SDGs?
Jennifer Bankie 4/20/2022 12:19 PMGreat presentation on building a bridge in Rwanda, its impact on the community, and how ecoconscious the country is! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & EcosystemsHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place? Was there a new place in your region that was exciting to learn about and visit?
Jennifer Bankie 4/08/2022 12:00 PMAllows you to see more detailed characteristics of the community. Many spring flowers were out. You get a different sense of distance when walking rather than driving/biking. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWith 5-minute or less showers reducing your water footprint, what do you plan to add next to your water conservation habits?
Jennifer Bankie 4/07/2022 9:43 AMI sometimes collect tepid water run waiting for it to heat to water my indoor plants. I could also grow more drought-tolerant indoor plants. -
Jennifer Bankie 4/01/2022 3:20 PMAlso discussed with a coworker this week making cashew-based parmesan cheese at home. (It's yummy--but way more than I needed at once.) -
Jennifer Bankie 4/01/2022 3:03 PMAttended a webinar to learn how Rothy's repurposes recycled plastic as thread in new shoes and prints shoe designs to allow for zero waste! And that Ecoalf makes comfortable puffy jackets out of ~80 plastic bottles each.
