    Economy & Communities
What are the climate and disaster risks in your region?

my search up for the natural disaster in Montreal was shocking, but it was maybe predictable. One of these natural disasters was severe winter storms. Since almost 6, 7 months in Montreal is snowy and cold, this city is always is in the danger of snow storm that it cause many negative effects. on the other hand, when I checked the Headwaters Economics website, I understood that Montreal is not in a very harmful situation in economy. One of the things is that the poverty in Montreal is almost high compared to the 5, 6 years ago. One of the biggest causes is the Covid-19. As the pandemic started, Canada started to experience a bad economy and soaring unemployment. Recent researches shows 35.8% of Canada's low income neighborhoods are in Montreal.

Would you consider using an induction cooking surface? If you have used one before, what do you like about induction cooking?

I really learned a lot about induction cooking. Now, I know a lot about the advantages and disadvantages of it and I can decide how to use them. one of the biggest advantages that it has is the pollution it makes for the environment. The environmental pollution of it is very low because it's directly coming from the electricity and not the fossil fuels. This makes the environment safe and helps the Earth to remain healthier. Also it has one big disadvantage. What if the power that we use for cooking fails. Then we cannot do anything about it. IN my opinion, there should be an auxiliary power for this problem to be used for 1-2 hours and also it's good to be rechargeable by sun and electricity.

What is one way you will reduce your water use? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your water use?

I started to calculate my water footprint and the result surprised me because it was higher than what I thought to be. I add the image of my result. Fortunately it was lower than the average.
One problem that I had was the state that the Quebec or any other states in Canada weren't there. There was only the states of US. I searched up on internet about the states of US that are similar to Quebec's electricity and Virginia was very similar.

How is food equity and access linked to a sustainable future?

    Pooria Bakhtizadeh 's avatar
    Pooria Bakhtizadeh 4/13/2022 5:49 PM
I believe, to have sustainable future, we should make almost all people around the world to be equal to each other. it can be in the food way, skin color way and language and cultural way. if we make an equitable food system in our family, we're teaching them that all people, from rich to poor, must have same amount of food for consuming. this is not correct that a poor person eat less food than the rich person, this is not equality. in order to make it equal, I thin rich people should help the other people and bring them up to the higher stage. I'm not telling same stage, because the rich person's stage is mostly come from an effort in their life and because of this, they should have a huge kindness to help other people to grow. by that, we can have an equitable community.

I forgot to add that others make billions off of doing unethical things, so we cannot forget about this---especially when it comes to the environment!

I like your insight into this, however I will say that not all wealthy people worked for where they are.  Some inherited the money through the family's name and they didn't have to do anything to acquire the riches.  Others may just get "lucky" and win the lottery---Loto 49 anyone? LOL

What was it like to actively listen to someone? How did both people and the conversation benefit from active listening?

    Pooria Bakhtizadeh 4/13/2022 5:32 PM
So, today I talked with one of my friends about her boyfriend. we talked about her first date with him, how was he like, what he did. I think having conversation with my friends help me to know them better and by that I can learn what is wrong on their point of view and what is right. Although, I'm the final person who decides, but it's very useful to know some tips.

What was something you learned from your friends during Earth Month?

    Pooria Bakhtizadeh 4/13/2022 5:29 PM
When I talked with 4 of my friends, at first 2 of them had no idea about Earth Month, so now they know about it. the other 2 were doing this challenge to help the Earth. they use plastic bags, that are recyclable, and put their stuffs in it to see how much products do they use per day and if it was a high number, then they try to use less to help the Earth.

How can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place? Was there a new place in your region that was exciting to learn about and visit?

    Pooria Bakhtizadeh 's avatar
    Pooria Bakhtizadeh 4/13/2022 5:25 PM
I think spending time outdoor helps us to get rid of anxiety, stress and depression, because while we're walking, we're enjoying from weather and the people that we see while walking. when I see people, I try to say "Hi" to them and be friendly to my neighbors, because by that, I can improve my social relationships and get rid of my shyness.

With 5-minute or less showers reducing your water footprint, what do you plan to add next to your water conservation habits?

    Pooria Bakhtizadeh 4/13/2022 5:22 PM
don't use water while cleaning your body or putting shampoo on head can be really useful to decrease the amount of time that we spend in bathroom and also we can decrease the amount of water that we use for that.
