REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhy is it important to honor native and indigenous peoples and cultures? What have you learned that is important to you? If you identify with or are a member of an indigenous group, how does your community practice sustainability?
Mitchell Bailey 4/12/2022 7:20 AMIndigenous Peoples need to celebrate their history because doing so helps to stop the loss and grows their culture. I learned that On August 3, 1990, President of the United States George H. W. Bush declared the month of November as National American Indian Heritage Month. Celebrating their history invigorates pride in being Indigenous. In their existence. In the preservation of their cultures, protocols, spirituality, traditions, and languages.
However I do not identify with any ethic or indigenous group. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityDo you have any tips for others on finding locations that accept products for safe disposal?
Mitchell Bailey 4/12/2022 7:15 AMI would definitely give anyone a tip of looking online to aid them in helping to find a location for safe disposal of products like medications. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat is one way you will reduce your water use? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your water use?
Mitchell Bailey 4/12/2022 7:11 AMI keep water bottles in the refrigerator. When I wash clothes or run the dishwasher I make sure there are full loads and not any partial loads. When I wash my car I make sure my turn off the water hose and never let the water hose run for any reason! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat was it like to practice mindfulness? If this is a practice for you already, what was something new you understood in practicing during Earth Month?
Mitchell Bailey 4/12/2022 7:06 AMMindfulness is a type of meditation in which you focus on being intensely aware of what you're sensing and feeling in the moment, without interpretation or judgment. Practicing mindfulness involves breathing methods, guided imagery, and other practices to relax the body and mind and help reduce stress.
Non-judging. Be an impartial witness to your own experience. Patience. A form of wisdom, patience demonstrates that we accept the fact that. Beginner's Mind. Remaining open and curious allows us to be receptive to new.Trust. Develop a basic trust with yourself and your feelings. Non-Striving.Acceptance. Letting Go. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & EcosystemsWhat is one invasive species in your region and how does it impact your region's ecosystem?
Mitchell Bailey 4/11/2022 8:43 PMAn invasive species in my region would be the Ice Plant. It is a plant that is native to South Africa and it impacts our ecosystem in California’s coastal region to prevent erosion. It was introduced by Caltrains in the early 1900s! South Africa and the Coast of California have very similar climates and you can find many plant species endemic to South Africa here in California-

REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & EcosystemsWhy is it important to take care of pollinators? Do you have a favorite pollinator?
Mitchell Bailey 4/11/2022 8:37 PMIt is important to take care of pollinators due to the fact that they encourage our plant cycle being that they are prime examples of helping plants and trees with pollination. A couple of my favorites being butterflies and hummingbirds. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & CommunitiesWhat are the climate and disaster risks in your region?
Mitchell Bailey 4/11/2022 8:34 PMThe climate risks we suffer from in the Sacramento area would be heat advisories and lack of water (drought). As far as disaster risks it would be minimal, but we have been known to suffer from aftershocks of earthquakes. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & EcosystemsWhat is one way you will reduce your carbon foorprint? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your carbon footprint?
Mitchell Bailey 4/11/2022 8:24 PMI try my best to drive as least as possible. With the rising gas prices affecting our economy and with the burning of fossil fuels increases our impact of carbon in the earth another practice I utilize is if I’m in my car on breaks I try to keep the engine off to decrease my carbon footprint overall. -
