REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & LivelihoodWhat is one thing you can do to help your community become more sustainable?
Shaelie Askew 4/30/2022 5:24 PMI work with a non profit and something we do to create more sustainability within our communities is teaching children about reusable products, and giving them organic snacks in compostable wrapping as apposed to plastic -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & CommunitiesWhat was it like to mend your clothing? If you are skilled at mending, what tips do you have for others?
Shaelie Askew 4/30/2022 5:22 PMI learned to sew when I was young, and have always recycled my clothing that I don’t wear anymore into something new, as well as patching my own holes and hemming etc.-
Alyssa Phillips 4/30/2022 5:56 PMHi Shaelie,
That is so cool that you know how to patch up your clothes! Sewing is one of those skills that has never stuck with me well, so I am always impressed at other's capabilities for it.

REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & CommunitiesWould you consider using an induction cooking surface? If you have used one before, what do you like about induction cooking?
Shaelie Askew 4/30/2022 5:21 PMI haven’t used one prior but would consider installing one once I have my own home. It is a little hard for people who have apartments because although we want to, we can’t change much about the space. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat is one way you will reduce your water use? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your water use?
Shaelie Askew 4/30/2022 5:20 PMOne way I will reduce my water use is by taking shorter showers, and turning my faucet off when not in use.
Something I already do is turn my faucet off when not in use. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityHow have you reduced your purchasing habits and what would you like to do next to reduce your consumption habits?
Shaelie Askew 4/30/2022 5:18 PMI have come to realize after doing this challenge, that I spend an unreasonable amount of money each day. I’m lucky if I don’t buy 5-10 things.
Something I’ve done to reduce this is give myself a budget, and a spreadsheet of my needs/ wants.
This is something I already do, but if I see something I want I will search for it secondhand first/ wait for it to pop up on a resale website or at a thrift store. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat was it like to practice mindfulness? If this is a practice for you already, what was something new you understood in practicing during Earth Month?
Shaelie Askew 4/30/2022 5:14 PMI realized after practicing this further, that I truly am not as aware of my surroundings as I thought I was. I noticed that I would find myself being overly reactive to things going on in my life, and getting overwhelmed quickly.
I feel as though this has helped my mental health, and helped me to center myself. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityHow did you incorporate using an entire vegetable (skins, peels, tops, and stalks) during one of your meal preps? What's something new you're going to try that is a zero-waste meal practice?
Shaelie Askew 4/30/2022 5:12 PMSomething that I do when making no waste meals is using the skin on vegetables, and using squeezed lemons for in hot water for tea! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWith 5-minute or less showers reducing your water footprint, what do you plan to add next to your water conservation habits?
Shaelie Askew 4/30/2022 5:11 PMI plan to keep my faucet off when not in use to help conserve water.
