REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?
Samantha Aben 4/25/2022 11:31 AMThe implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens include sleep deprivation, strain on eyes and mind, and potentially delayed learning in children. As time progresses, children and teens are spending the majority of their time using phones and laptops for their everyday tasks. Using technology may delay their social skills due to not openly displaying emotions, but just typing them. It is very important to get outside and exercise to keep the mind constantly moving. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & LivelihoodHow do you create new sustainability-related habits or change bad habits?
Samantha Aben 4/15/2022 11:45 AMOne can create new sustainability-related habits by creating daily to-do lists to ensure the action of recycling or eating clean is factored into daily tasks. Bad habits can be changed by focusing on getting rid of them for 21 days and then after that 21 day period it will most likely come naturally to not do the bad habit. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & LivelihoodHow does practicing a work-life balance create a more sustainable life for you? How might it contribute to sustainability more broadly?
Samantha Aben 4/14/2022 11:47 AMPracticing a work-life balance creates a more sustainable life by consciously focusing on your actions and the impacts. Becoming more mindful to actions is beneficial due to focusing on how long you are running the water or if you are recycling. It may contribute to sustainability more broadly due to the process of multiple people focusing on their life balance and how it may impact the environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & EcosystemsWhat is one way you will reduce your carbon foorprint? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your carbon footprint?
Samantha Aben 4/08/2022 7:23 AMOne way I will reduce my carbon footprint is by eating a better diet. By incorporating more local and seasonal foods into my diet it will limit the carbon footprint and is more sustainable. A practice I already have that helps to reduce my footprint is recycling and using reusable shopping bags. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat is one way you will reduce your water use? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your water use?
Samantha Aben 4/02/2022 2:17 PMOne way you can reduce your water use is by installing low-flow showerheads and faucets. The low-flow products enable water to flow at about 2.5 (or less) gallons per minute while regular products may flow 5 gallons of water per minute. A practice I already use that reduces water use is not letting the faucets run when they are not needed (ex: brushing teeth, showering, etc). -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat was it like to practice mindfulness? If this is a practice for you already, what was something new you understood in practicing during Earth Month?
Samantha Aben 4/01/2022 12:57 PMSpending time to practice mindfulness enabled me to feel refreshed and refocused. I have had a very busy past few weeks and taking the time to focus on what is around me and to relax gave my brain the break it needed.
